Jackie and I ran an impromptu autocross in my 325 last weekend in Massachusetts on my Star Specs. The car is a lot more fun on the star specs than street tires. I too have to run in STX due to 8" wide wheels but likewise only my rear swaybar keeps me out of stock class. Setting the rear bar on stiff and playing with the konis did allow the back end to slide around a lot more on trailing throttle, which was great. The "diamonding the corner" technique also worked well as there was a large sweeper in the course where I tried to "throw" the car into the turn right after I finished braking to get the car to rotate. The more initial rotation I could get, the more gas I could use and the less push I was getting. Yes it is a camber-challenged e46 and it would still destroy the front tires if you let it but it was a lot more fun and challenging on the star specs as opposed to just frustrating on the BFG R1s.

Also for what it is worth, the staggered R1s I had for the 944 were sold with the car after 2+ years of use. I think I swapped them once (they were on 2 different sets of wheels in their life) and they still had a LOT of rubber left on them. Granted that car was super-easy on tires with all the static camber it had but as far as club-use goes I would buy R1s all over again and intend to get some for the 911 eventually.
