Really Todd! How much time do you really need to spend "passing gas" at work anyway?

I enjoyed the event too. Great Course, fast fun and I might have even improved my times if I hadn't screwed around with my shocks and I didn't have a right front tire that was corded 360 degrees around. (Damn, why don't I have any grip, IT can't be that I'm overdriving)

I saw several novices going at it alone and probably not faring as well as possible, I know I still benefit from more experienced driver's tips so we need to keep encouraging them to ask for rides/riders.

Sorry for the delay in getting the results up everyone. I have sent the necessary files to Emmie. She should be able to get them on the web site soon.

Thanks to Shawn, Aaron, and Eric for making a great, fun course. I think more courses should me like that. Good job guys!

Also thanks to my scoring team!!!! You guys and gals did an AWESOME job! It is scoring teams like ours that makes our events run so smoothly and makes people want to race with us. :toast: Here's a beer for you!!

Thanks for the info folks. I did walk the course twice but more walk-throughs is a good idea. The suggestion of a co-pilot is one that I'll follow up on if I get a DNF next time out.

Cheers,

Chris

Don't wait until you have a DNF to get an experienced driver to ride with you! One of the greatest advantages this club provides it's members is allowing anyone to ride with anyone, except novice with novice (or spectators except during fun runs) This is a GREAT opportunity to get instruction, and have someone help you discover your mistakes, instead of "practicing" them. Donna and I take advantage of that allowance at every single event, riding with each other on most runs. It is very difficult in the heat of the run to really know what mistakes or poor techniques you are doing. You'll quite often see the best drivers asking another to ride with them, especially if they are struggling that day.
There is no shame in asking for instruction, the only shame is having the opportunity and not taking advantage of it!
We too are always available for help on walk thrus, riding along with you or you riding with one of us. If we should ever say no (rare), it's only because we want to make that run on our own to devote full concentration or work on a problem area, not because we don't want to help on another run, so feel free to ask again.

I just wanted to add (have not read through the whole post yet), but those I DNF'd at worker station 4 were those who DID NOT go through the gate after the left turn lane change. I watched A LOT of people trying to treat that like a slalom, and that was where I called a LOT of DNFs. More of the DNFs I heard was at worker station 5 where people in heat 1 where getting WAY outta control on the offsets.

The only DNF I called, other than missing a gate, was the Miata at worker station 4 that went all 4 off.

You had 2 n00bs at worker station 5, and I tried to help them out where I could, but I was already covering a HUGE expanse of cones on my own. Heck, I could not even TALK to the NOV I was working with at worker station 4 since she was so far away from me.

Just my two cents.. and now back to reading the whole thread...

Thanks for the advice Chuck.. I had offers for co-pilots but wanted to run solo to see how I'd do, and to force myself to look ahead more frequently. Plus I wanted to see how my self analysis/corrective actions were working with each successive run.

Now that I got that out of my system I'll probably be looking for a copilot that can handle Toruette type outbursts when I do speed scrubbing maneuvers :) Your suggestion of not waiting for a DNF was a good one..thanks.

Cheers,

Chris

Ah, now that I have had time to read the whole thread, I have a few more things to add.

#1. I am sorta a newbie. I am in Open class, but I have NOT been to more than 3 full fledged AutoXes. I am a student of the rules, and I was relying on my past autoX experiences to tell me that the working SHOULDN'T be too hard. However, I was wrong. The workers seem to have been spread MAJORLY thin due to the large course setup. It was major fun to drive, but I could hardly talk to my other worker for cone penalties to call in. Furthermore, during my working runs, I was driving a two driver car. My wife and I were at the same station on the other side of the world :). It took about 1/4 the way through the A-cars until I got relieved.

Other than that, I loved it! I think there might have been a problem with getting workers since half of the group that was supposed to go out and work was still in the pits getting ready to finish run #5.

Great event, and I hope their are more that are 70 second courses... just next time, I want to feel like there are 125 people at the event, and some of them are out there working with me :)

Thanks guys!! It rocked!!
