Facebook is the devil.

But where else can I complain about my job, say boo it's Monday, yeehaw it's Friday, and talk about how my relationship's on the rocks to anyone that listens? Oh wait, I don't do any of that. Whew... But I see far too many people that do. Self preservation is not an asset they possess. I'm just guilty of posting way too many photos of car and baby stuff.

Back on track, it's a fine line to make everyone happy and that's the bottom line. I'm game for whatever you guys and gals come up with. Let's drive and have fun and possibly have a shot to be a champion for a year! :cheer:

Why come??

Aaron covered a lot of it. It's a distraction. Everybody's different, but it seems to me that many people spend way more time worrying about the club cup than they do about being state champion. I think that's a shame.

Mostly, though, and I know this is an unpopular position with some folks (*cough*Art*cough*), I think it builds animosity between the clubs. People are never happy with the way the points are calculated, and people bicker about it, and take it a little too seriously. I've heard we're actually supposed to be doing this stuff because it's fun.

I know, I know, it's a radical idea. I fully expect to be impeached. :)

You can't see any of the event detail text or you can't see who's signed up? I have that turned off right now to keep big brother eyes from seeing who's signed up. I can turn on if needed. I suck at webpages.

Let's rent the crappiest econobox and the slushiest luxobarge we can get at the local Hertz/Avis/etc.

Each club chooses 2 drivers - lowest combined time wins

I was wondering how this differs from the public entry lists & history of results on the public thscc.com web pages. I was pleased to see that at least the results pages are at least blocked from permanent archival by archive.org. However, if we're trying to protect this data from say, insurance agents, there's nothing stopping an agent from going to thscc.com and viewing the archived entry lists from many years past.

It could be argued that Facebook, etc. is "more" visible, but it's still not disclosing anything that's not already on the club web site. Are we going for security through obscurity?

I'm just trying to figure out what the motivation is for this stuff and how we can best accomplish the goals. Protecting club members should definitely be #1 priority.

Speaking of which, what are we protecting the entrants from? Insurance companies? Forgive my ignorance on this. Hmm, now this is getting quite off-topic.

This is a great idea.

It's doesn't have to be the exclusive decision maker, but certainly a fun category for bragging without controversy.

You guys should feel free to make the club cup something fun. Instead of this crap where clubs are hiring drivers in their efforts to win it.

Are clubs "hiring" drivers to win it?

As long as there is a club cup, and it's a single event that decides it, "hired guns" are always going to be an issue. Which makes the club cup an even more pointless exercise than it already was. See also: my post where I said that we should bin the entire thing.

Ryan's suggestion for the club cup is the best idea I have ever seen. :D

Correction: You WANT to be impeached. So we'll never do it. :)

If the club cup generates more interest in the NCAC, then it's OK, even if the current rules may not favor us. I would much rather have us wow the other clubs with a huge THSCC turnout (regardless of class) and a flawlessly run event.

At this point I'll again suggest that we go back to the old 2-day event format where we run the same course both days. Your best time from the entire weekend is the one that counts for the NCAC and the THSCC points event.

Advantages:
1) Allows people who cannot attend both days to have a chance (not as good a chance, but a chance) to compete for trophies. I'll bet there are some folks who are skipping since they can't be there both days.
2) Since the event is local, it might encourage some of the retired or semi-retired THSCC hot shoes to make a one day appearance and help THSCC in its club cup bid.
3) The event chairs and VPs don't have to stay late Saturday night to set up a 2nd course.
4) Only need one course map.
5) Less work for the registrar and T&S
5a) Year-long season pass holders don't have to sign up/pay separately for Saturday.
6) If someone gripes that "This isn't how an SCCA regional is run", we'll sincerely promise to "see what we can do about that" and send them away.

WLC Y'all!

Rodney, last time I talked to Carl, event entries/results pages on the THSCC site were tagged so that they would not be searched by a 'well behaved' search engine. If someone bothers to look up THSCC and manually search our site, that won't help. If they just Google on names, it will. I don't have a Facebook account and I don't want any info about me or my autocross participation there.
