Sorry for replying so late. I live in Greenville and can shed some light on the hotel problem.
Most of the hotels are on the west side of town, some near some questionable areas. The nicest hotels are near the convention center on Greenville Blvd about 15 minutes from our site. There is a new Hampton Inn there as well as the City Hotel and the Hilton. There are usually the most expensive. That is where we put people interviewing for a job at ECU.
The Wingate is OK and I think the price is pretty good. Otherwise, I stay away from the other hotels on Memorial Drive (Hwy 11) until you get south to the Winterville area. There is a new Microtel near our Health Sciences Campus on Moye Blvd. There is a Home Towne Suites near the hospital on Arlington Blvd.
If anybody misses parking their trailer inside the fence at the site, let me know. You can park it at my house which is not far from the Wingate. My neighbors are used to cars and trailers being parked at my house! Don't ask Cline. He lives on the rich side of town!

Expedia had the City Hotel and Bistro for $59. Thought I would give it a try.

That's not far from the site and a nicer hotel. For those dining in G'vegas, I'd recommend Los Charros on Greenville Blvd (less than a mile from City Hotel and not much more from Wingate).

There is a good ribs/chicken place on Red Banks, Uncle Yammy's Rib Shack.

Beyond that most of your standard, cookie cutter stuff. I wish I could join you but with a wife with child #3 due in under 3 weeks and my son less than a week from having his tonsils removed, I am going to be lucky to make it to the event.

Of course I will get abuse for all of this, but if I was staying in Greenville I would stay at the Best Western on the East side of town. Yes it is 10 minutes further and you can't go next door to the Gold Teeth Grill store like you can at the City Bistro. Nobody has been pistol whipped at that Mcdonalds acrross the street from their lately either.

Uncle Yammy's is ok for ribs, he does live in my neighborhood so I guess he is labeled as I am. Some small, more metro places, are Atavolia (behind Yammy's on Redbanks), Daily Grind on Firetower, AJ Mcmurphy's is a nice Irish pub. but I would go to CPW's (carolina pasta works) near the hospital. Huge selection, good bar.

I will just be getting back in town Saturday night , but let me know where you might be eating.

I thought about that hotel, but wasn't sure about trailer parking.
The ribs at Uncle Yammies are just OK. You guys stick with Red Lobster.

I was thinking a little beer and party time @ the Wingate pool after dinner, but just looked and their pool is inside. Rats.

Cline, I'll give you a call before dinner and tell you where we are. I'm still thinking shrimp/beer-cool drinks at Red Lobster. It's close, and they can handle a big table of rowdy autocrossers. At least, they did last year.

I can take some trailers at my office.. It is @ 3750 S. Evans st. , turn right off of Greenville blvd (when coming from the site) an it is one mile down on the right, park on the end where my office is and you can all also park behind.

Actually my Mexican recommendation was wrong, Plaza Azteca is AWESOME, just up the street from City Hotel.

Cline's office is smack dab in the good part of town and not far from the site.

We're shooting for around 2ish to begin setup, at least that's the expected Bus Arrival Time at the site. Hopefully it'll be pretty quick before we spontaneously combust in the heat....
