Thanks for the input. Aaron, sorry the event wasn't what you had hoped. I look forward to seeing you run the STI in 2011.

Best wishes to Karl (not knowing the details) regarding whatever has happened to his S2k...

How much of ProSolo event performance bleeds over to Solo National Tour event performance expectation, and subequently into considerations for reclassing cars? Or does it not count for much?

Karl's car is fine, he just needs to replace a wheel. The whole story is in a big DC thread on roadrace-autox.com if you care to go read it.

ProSolo rules aren't handled by the Solo Events Board. In fact, the SEB is supposed to completely disregard ProSolo performance for classing purposes, and does a pretty good job of that. And the classing COULD be changed for ProSolo purposes if they wanted to, but they don't. But the launch component means that "the car to have" for normal autocross may NOT be the car to have for ProSolo, because some cars launch so much better that it's hard for other cars to make the time back up.

Case in point was the old AS in 2007 and 2008. Jonathan Roberts had some decent finishes in the STi at Tours and Nationals, but no wins (at least not against top competition, IIRC). But I don't believe he lost a single ProSolo, including the Finale. In fact, in 2007 he won the Finale by over 2 full seconds. In 2008 he won by a much smaller margin, but did it by only taking his first FOUR runs (out of 12 for everyone else) because the car broke a lower control arm in my FIRST run (which was right after his first four).

That was a 2005 STi, and there's been more development on other cars (as well as the appearance of the S2000 CR), but many STILL think the 2005 might be the car to have. Aaron thinks the 2010 might be better, but we'll have to see. This DC course was tailor made for cars with good steady state handling and launch capability (it was almost TWO launches per side thanks to a slow turnaround followed by a long uphill pull), and while the STi launches like a mother, they had some trouble with the steady state stuff (which I think was mostly due to being on stock rear shocks).

I was perusing the results, and was hoping for some perspective...I know that ProSolo is run different from Solo National Tour events, so how significant are these observations:

The Solstice GXP dominated in BStock
What happened to the S2000 crowd?
Miatas were shut out in CStock
Are D Stock and A Stock dying classes?

Also noticed the STU cars were a bit faster than those dastardly Civics....

I'm pretty ignorant re: ProSolo events, so input from Others More Knowledgable would be great!

Hope the event was a fun weekend for all who competed!

BS: Pat Griffith had the hot hand. He was on fire. The Kozlaks and Pat's car owner Eric K were also fast. I don't mean this to discredit those guys at all, as they drove exceptionally, but these courses did favor torquey cars a bit. There were some low speed hauls uphill in 2nd gear where turbo cars were in great shape, and S2000s kind of weren't. This isn't unusual at a Pro, given the courses tend to be tighter than those at a Tour. Just as an example, Greg Hahn is the 2008 National Champion in AS in his S2000 CR. He was ~2.5 seconds back from P1.

CS: Same, IMO.

AS: looks like it's dead on arrival on the face of it, but it's really early yet. People sometimes don't want to be the first person to try a car in a class, only to find out later that they've got the wrong car. So maybe people are waiting on everybody else to figure it out? Who knows. I think DS was an outlier this weekend.

STU faster than ST: See the turbo thing again. I got to watch some STU cars go tearing ass up the hill on the left side where the ST Civics kind of "just went." And the ST winner had kind of a rough weekend of it.

JMO.

I think at some point I will have Jonathan drive my car next year when I feel I have hit the setup better. He is world's better a driver than I am, so I know he could show the actual performance potential.

Chris Carris and Rod McGeorge both say that the rear suspension the GR chassis ('08+) is superior to the GD ('04 - '07) along with the extra 20mm of tire, but the extra weight may be a problem. Only time will tell. - AB

This is unconfirmed at the moment but there are plans underway to put on a 2-day Extreme School in August at Danville. The exact date and other specifics haven't been nailed down but if anybody is interested, I'd suggest emailing Tim or Jinx right away to keep the momentum up.

For those that aren't aware, the Extreme school features all the elements of the first 2 schools with the addition of data logging and analysis. It will help to show you *exactly* where you may be having issues and will allow you to really fine tune your driving.

Just when I think I can make it without a driving school you had to throw in datalogging/analysis and --BAM!-- I get sucked right back in....oh, the throes of addiction!

Eagerly awaiting to pay up for it!
