Not to go too far off topic, but could you folks that travel to the regional events recommend a good first event that's less than say, 5-6 hours away possibly in the fall? I know the Scca webpage has everything listed but I just wanted to get some feedback.

It would be cool to actually race against some of the other GS cars to see what's out there and see what the buzz is about this Genesis class killer. 8)

You kind of already missed the close ones. Unless you want to race in a pro solo. http://www.scca.com/contentpage.aspx?content=119

You could always pick an event in the DC region or the Atlanta region. Both of them have *excellent* solo programs and are stacked with talent.

My usual suggestion for someone who wants to do their first pro is always the same - the DC Pro. I'm not sure you'd be able to get in this year, since it always fills up and is mere weeks away. But there are always cancellations, so you never know. It's a cool site and always draws some really fast drivers. You can have a look at the site in the Youtube video I posted the page prior.

Solo Atlanta: http://www.soloatlanta.com/
DC Region: http://www.wdcr-scca.org/SoloAutocross/ ... fault.aspx

Note: I'm unfamiliar with the sites the ATL guys have these days. Last time I ran down there, they were using a really awesome site that they no longer have access to. The local residents complained for years about the noise, and I guess people kept bringing too-loud cars out anyway. Or so I'm told.

As to the Genesis - that car's big problem is its 19" wheels. I'd have to want to win really, really bad to pay for 19" Hoosiers on a mac strut car.

I've run there twice recently at the Turner Field site, and it is a large, decent site for an autocross. Both courses I've run there were well designed and fun with a good balance for the power versus agility battle. They're a great group to run with -- very well run events. Also, you are only on-site for 1/2 day as it is split in two depending on your class (alternates through the season).

Karl, your footage is what's kind of giving me the itch!

That site looks really awesome and just something a little different than the local places I've raced.

I agree about the 19" wheel dilemma and really, really hope I can get 60 runs out of my V710's on my macpherson equipped little Civic that could... We'll see.

IMHO regional events are just local events of a regional club, or at best similar to the NCAC to serious AXers. There is not anything special to draw them any distance except possibly the venue like FedX, the black lake or ACU4.
Take the leap and do a national event or two even if you have to drive twice as far and finish DFL, it's worth it, it's a far far better world.
I've only seen one Genesis in the national results and tho driven by good drivers ended up an also ran.

CCR and SCR are having their annual battle of the states at Michellin "black Lake" June 26-27. That site is awesome and worth the trip.

Look at some more current GS results. There is no way the Genesis will be an also ran in the new GS. At worst, it will be a course dependency battle with the ACR Neon. - AB

I'm not sure what results you are refering to?
I only find one in tour and pro results. But I really don't care and won't argue the merits.
We just might unretire the Celica tho.
