While I'm rocking the boat ;) the rules on the website on NOV year long points and when to transition to open are a little inconsistent in wording and application. The rules in one place say we are still running YLN (and have said so ever since we dropped it), while at events we say "welcome to open" to everyone who gets a trophy in NOV, while at one point in the rules it says it takes two finishes in the top three to kick you up.

Yeah, that's a rules clarification we put on the "To-Do list" to clarify in 2008

Thanks for the reminder, though

I'm finding myself needing to know the answer to this question, too, now that I'm talking to lots of novices. I told someone last weekend that he had to run in open class since he trophied at the first event (because that's what you all made me do), but then I wasn't so sure about that when other people thought the rule was different.

Yeah, I got caught up in this last year. I got 1st in Novice at my 1st autox in Danville (late last year) and I didn't know about sticking around for trophies or that I had even come close to winning so I left only to find out I was first. Then I ran the next event in NOV again because I saw that rule on the website saying you need two top 3 trophies to move on. Then since I stuck around after the Sanford event and placed 1st again, Dustin did the 'welcome to open class' line. However, someone asked me why I ran NOV a 2nd time since I already placed. So suffice it to say, I was thoroughly confused with the rules :).

Translation: "I beat Steve like a rented mule twice in a row. It was fun. Thanks for letting me stay in NOV last year."

Not like I'm bitter or anything....

To be fair, you placed 3rd in both of those events and therefore I wasn't holding you up from a 1st :). Furthermore, you placed 3rd in the last 3 events so I was at least technically following one set of rules. You should have been TIR or open in that last event...so you stole someone else's 3rd place trophy. Shame on you Steve 8)
