Recently there were a bunch of posts about the best route to the L'burg site.
I was uncharacteristically silent. So, I decided to mention our route now that the novice school is here and lots of new folks will be coming.

We travel down Hwy 1 through Aberdeen. Then Left onto 15/501 South. Roughly 15 (more or less) miles down 15/501 you'll pass an abandoned vegetable stand set back from the road on the left. Just beyond that is ARCH MC LEAN Rd on the left. Turn left and follow Arch McLean until it dead ends into OLD WIRE Rd. Left on Old Wire, over a little creek, and immediately right onto AIRBASE Rd. Follow Airbase Rd until it dead ends into AIRPORT Rd. Left on Airport Rd and follow it around the airport to the site entrance.

This avoids any small towns and is the most direct route. Obviously, this is only the best route if you're going straight to the site, and not to L'burg first.

See you all tomorrow.

Gwen

If we throw like 1000 cones out at your house, will that scare you into coming to an AX to reduce your cone-threat-level? :P

For those coming from Durham/Chapel Hill, does anybody know if the Chatham County courthouse fire in Pittsboro has caused the city to set up a detour on 15-501?

Well the traffic circle is closed and will probably be closed for another several days, so it will send you on a few little side rides to get around the circle. Not a bad detour especially that early in the morning when there is no traffic.

Now trying to get through town this afternoon was a nut house. :(

I usually go through Wagram so I can stop at the store there and grab some ice. Spratte has known to become Mr. Cranky Pants without cold drinks. :D

I've always gone through Sanford then 15-501 like usual, but I swear it's quicker for me to go 40 to 95 leaving from the downtown area. Maybe it's just the higher speed limits.

I'll probably clock it both ways on Sunday b/c I'm a nerd...

Funny, I just went back the way I came, on 95 & 40.

It's about 1.5 hours to my house.

With us living north of Durham, going down 751 to US1 and then south just makes more sense. Otherwise, we're in I-40 traffic pulling the trailer going through RTP, Raleigh, etc. It's about 110 miles=2.5 hrs for us either way.

Always a pretty drive, though you really have to watch for deer @ night.
