The wheels that came on my wife's mini were a +50 offset. I know the rule for stock is +/- .25", but one of the optional wheels you could order with the mini (and could order from the factory I believe) was a +48. Would a +42 wheel therefore be stock legal?

No, the legal range would be 43.65 to 56.35. However if you find a 42 wheel that has a nice thick hub flange, you can pay a machine shop to mill off 1.65 mm and be good to go.

Are you trying to get the MCS legal for DS?

I was in the same boat when I perusing light wheels for stock class. My OEMs are +55 and a lot of the wheels I was seeing that I wanted were +48 which s .65mm shy of legal. In that case, I'd have no qualms with milling off .65mm in terms of structural rigidity etc. However, I think I'm going to start prepping towards STU at the end of the year so I'm going to hold off on wheels.

The key is whether the +48 wheels are actually factory line item options or port installed. If port installed, they aren't legal. Proving that they are can be difficult. A lot of early WRX people got screwed when they ordered "factory" short shift kits for their cars, but they were installed at the port and later deemed not legal by SCCA standards.

I would rather buy a wheel that I don't have to mill anything off of the hub contact surface and run a stock legal spacer to get you to max width (which also allows you to tune with track width), than buy one with questionable legality and have to mill the contact surface. - AB

Crap, I misunderstood. So if the +48 is a factory option, then yes a +42 would be.

Edit: Aaron, I could have sworn that someone told me that port installed options are now stock legal as of 2009. Let me do some reading.

Edit2: Found it:

Quote:
12.4 STANDARD PART
An item of standard or optional equipment that could have been
ordered with the car, installed on the factory production line, and
delivered through a dealer in the United States. Port-installed options
provided by the factory are considered to be the same as
those installed on the factory production line. Dealer-installed options
or deletions (except as required by factory directives), no matter
how common or what their origin, are not included in this definition.
This definition does not allow the updating or backdating of parts.

I highly doubt it James. Otherwise, you end up with a lot of wacky wheel combos and "kits" that make a car difficult to class.

Toyota Racing Development offers port installed supercharger kits on almost all Scions. While I wouldn't mind having a 200hp Scion TC in HS :) - AB

Yeesh. That is a scary definition. I may need to look at a TC :) - AB

So I take it you don't want to drive the WRX tomorrow now

Domestics don't ever come through a port. :P

I've got two sets of stock legal SSRs for MINIs. It's not getting beat on regularly, I could consider letting a set a go.

Maybe an ITR in DS.
Or half-assed STX prepped 330.

Ihave no idea what you are talking about... I thought that all Ford's were made in mexico

but, thats true I guess... so, if domestic's dont have a "installed at port" clause, and imports do, thats really not a fair rule at all.

I think this is where Aaron might not get his supercharged TC. The TC is made in the US :).

Interesting, but I'm guessing yours are 16's. We need 17's to be stock legal (JCW).

No, I still want some turbo'd 2.5L action, even if I end up buying the same wrapped in a 2006 STI package :) - AB

I am pretty sure the JCW could have been had with 16's in the R53 generation but I have never done a ton of research to know for sure.
