Please explain to the new folks what you mean by "cheater" tires?

Anyone into stereo competitions has heard of so called "cheater amps". This is referring to an amp rated at say 45 watts RMS when actually it can output double or triple that power. Technically legal since that's the manufacturers rating, but it doesn't really represent the actual power.

Azenis IMO are the same concept. They market them with a TWR of what...200? Most folks would say they are less than 100. Technically (by THSCC rules) legal, but you get the concept right?

With that said I have a set of 16's for the Cavalier and a set of 15's for the Miata. Them cheater tires are so damn cheap you just have to buy them. :P

Well therein lies the real issue. Tread wear ratings are made by the individual tire companies. There is no government test or measurement made by an outside body. That is one of the reason you really can't compare TWR from one manufacturer to another, they are really only accurate in each manufacturer's line of tires.

As for the azenis I know of several non autox people who use them as their daily tires and get 20k out of them on the street.

Back on topic, evidently VMSC has a policy of not discussing incidents on their forum. I was courseworking when an incident did not happen and my post there discussing something that didn't happen was removed. So, what is the "official" policy on this board going to be?

The official policy: We don't make policy until there is a need for one.

I think Mike has it right. I don't really see a need for a offical policy on this one.

Having said that, maybe a few semi-unofficial guidelines are in order.

I think it is ok to talk about incidents that happen both at other clubs and at Tarheel events. In fact when it relates to things at THSCC events I believe that we should talk about it. At least if we put something on the forums as sort of an official report maybe that will a)dispel rumors, and b)serve as a basis for improving our events.

The most important thing about these type of discussions is the tone and the intent. If the topic is talked about in a respectful manner with the intent of making everyone's events better then I think it's ok.

On the other hand if the tone goes something like "such and such club is stupid and to prove my point this is what happened at their event", well that is not the correct tone.

Respect is also important towards the people involved in the incident. Please if you are going to post something in writing make sure that you would be proud to say it face to face with the person you are talking about. Remember, for the most part you are talking about people that enjoy the same sport as you.

I don't think you need to name names either. Not much point in saying Shawn did something stupid today. Probably much better to say something like "the driver of the yellow Integra/Blue WRX did a 720 spin and stop 6 feet from me". Everyone who needs to know, already knows who did something stupid.

I also think pictures being posted should be a no no. See the topic on insurance issues in the club discussion forum if you need a reason why it should be that way.

Thats my thoughts on it. Damn this post got long.

Shawn
