I got sick of waiting in line to drop packaged off at the RTP FedEx office so I registered for the basic shipping online. Very nice! Since I've been shipping a lot of car parts lately, I can just print the labels at home/work, stick them on the package, walk in, drop the packages off and walk out. No lines.
The RTP FedEx office also takes Ground shipments (that's all I do), so it works real well (not to mention, it's on my way home from work). I assume you could schedule a pickup as well and still save the hassle.
FedEx measures and weighs the packages on *their* time, not yours, and you just see a random charge on the Visa card.
You could also use your account to have someone else send something to you, so that could be a convienient way to save a buck or two when you have to pay shipping.
