Jeb, where did you get your modulator?

I'm interested in something like this for our van. Using the tape deck is getting to be a pain as the adapters always suck, and the FM transmitters aren't much better.

If it makes any difference, I'm after something that I can use with my iPhone. At the moment, I'm just using earbuds, and while that works, I don't think it's legal to drive around with earbuds in.

Problem is that head units made before the iPhone don't really know what to do with it. I've got an iPod interface in the MINI from Dension (which has sense stopped selling in the US). I'd hoped that it would at least charge the iPhone and it didn't.

As far as the iPod goes, I don't feel the need to show it off so I ran my connection to the glove box so it's nice and out of site. The HU gives me all the info and control I need over the music.

I'm not sure what I'm driving.
Maybe an ITR in DS.
Or half-assed STX prepped 330.

I recently bought an fm modulator not a transmitter for my Volvo. It wires behind the radio.

Thanks for the pointer Jeb. I might have to use one of these if getting an iPod adapter wired in will be as complicated to impossible as it seems.

If you order from Crutchfield as I did, It is like $36 with the shipping. They send "master sheets" that basically tell you how to take apart your car to install a radio, accessory or speakers. Install in the Volvo was a breeze. I gave my wife an iPod for Christmas, so I have ordered the same thing for her van. I used to get static all the time from a relatively nice transmitter. I have none now with the modulator since it is intercepting the signal before it gets to the radio.

Alex, let us know how this works out. I've been searching for such a thing for mine, and the answer keeps coming back "that'll only work on a 2006+ car."

Don't know about iPhone compatibility, but here's an update.

I talked with Audio Express yesterday, they were recommended by Autopark Honda who said they sent all aftermarket work to them.

Audio Express said that the Spec USA adapter that is supposedly for AP2 only will work with AP1 as well. $179 for part, $75 for labor.

Now, as fate wanted it, one of my free-cycling friends wanted to get rid of his iTrip iPod FM transmitter, so he gave it to me today. I will take it as a sign and not spend the money on a wired adapter just yet.

Have fun with the FM transmitter. I tried a couple of those, and they both sucked.

You should spend the $30 on the FM modulator that Jeb got & get some help installing it.

Yeah, they DO suck. I used one in the past and it was not great, not by a long shot. I'll just wait till I get fed up with the transmitter I got for free before buying new parts.
