If I remember correctly, you're doing the 3.5l motor in that E30, right? MMMM...torque.

The Carquest machine shop on Germantown Rd in Raleigh will resurface and lighten the flywheel for you. You'll want to call and talk to them first, however - give them a heads up of what you want.

Though tons of folk drive around on lightened stock flywheels, I'm not the biggest fan of them in theory. I know BMW parts are $$$ usually, but have you checked out replacement aluminum flywheels? I just bought a new Fidanza flywheel for the Miata for $285 (shipping included) off of ebay. It's worth a look.

Can't help you with the driveshaft, though...

Ryan at John West was able to take 5lbs off a stock flywheel for me, and balance/resurface for a song. He might be able to help you out with a driveshaft as well.

tom.. most of the people i've talked to about the flywheel (mainly on the bmw boards at roadfly.com) recommend a lightened stock vs the aluminum. would have to look it up again for reasons but its most definately cheaper to lighten a stock.. and thats mainly where i'm going from.

Mattew:

YOu should be able to do both locally:
THOFF has been lightening and ballancing VW flywheel for me. BWM's
should be less expensive to do because they are conventional design
and should not take as long.

Contact STONE HEAVY, they make driveshafts for trucks, but I've
seen some Circle Track type stuff done there also. They are on
Exit 310 (I40) believe it is John Sauassage Rd (?)

Another source for Alloy Drive shafts is Coleman Racing:
You an all them and talk to a tech person at 800 221 1851
They should be able to get the Yoke demisions off your existing shaft
and can do whatever length you specify.
Hmmmmm alloy flhweel, alloy driveshaft, would you like some super light alloy racing wheels to go with that Big Mac sir?

thanks for the info.. i'll be sure to check them out when I get around to doing both of those. the custom drive shaft is a maybe depending on the cost difference between just shortening a stock one and a complete custom one.. the flywheel isnt going to be alloy of any sort.. just want the stock one lightened :D
