So, Todd Breakey and I are both enrolled in a Photography class at Wake Tech. Best $80 (!) I've ever spent on this new hobby - I've learned a lot already, and we're only a little over half way through.

Anyway, the instructor recommended Peace Camera, on Peace Street in downtown Raleigh, as a place where knowledgeable photography enthusiasts work and can help n00bs like me select equipment...and he was right. They've got a nice selection of used gear, and, to my shock and amazement, I'm finding that their prices are often more than competitive - they're right in line with online superstores like bhphotovideo.com! Local, knowledgeable, and affordable...my kind of place.

I'll second that! I've bought a couple of things from Peace. Very good prices and relatively friendly people (well as friendly as a bunch of grumpy photogs can be, I guess.)

They hold regular meetings and photo shoot outings -- great opportunities for n00bs to pick up some good tips and tricks.
