If you're in North or NW Raleigh, Norwood Rd Nursery is where I've gotten my mulch and planting dirt lately. I believe they have "regular" topsoil as well as various grades of "enriched" planting soils, and will deliver as needed.

Just another tip...one thing to do is just call dump truck companies. Make sure and shop around, too, for the best price. If possible, inspect what you're getting by going to the site before the soil comes to you since often people will sell screened fill as "topsoil."

When I need gravel I don't call the gravel pit, I call one of a small group of haulers. They get it and bring it to me and charge me for the gravel and the hauling all at once. I'm sure many will do the same for topsoil and will know where to get it. That will be a lot cheaper route than calling places that advertise they sell it. Those places are buying it, when often you can find it yourself via a hauler from somewhere that's really just wanting to give it to anyone who will haul it away.

(Once I got 150 full LOADS of fill delivered to my property for FREE just by asking around to a few different haulers. The town of Chapel Hill was putting in a new 2' water main somewhere and the dirt they were displacing had to go somewhere and they had nowhere to dump it that didn't want to charge *them* for the privilege. They paid to haul it to me, too, since that was cheaper than paying to haul it and paying to dump it somewhere else. Obviously you need topsoil and that was fill, but you get the idea.)

there are a few places, on capitol blvd. that are off the beaten path.up past the 540 exit on capitol blvd. (i think) they are industrial looking joints.. they sell topsoil, tommorow, i oculd ride past there and give you the names.
they're : mulch express, and triangle landscape. on gresham lake road, in raleigh nc. past the S.T. Wooten plant. across the railroad tracks.

Let us know who you go with. I'm going to need some top soil as well and possibly some fill dirt in the future.
