Looking for a decent paint shop or someone who maybe works at a shop that does after hours work on the side for less. I'm looking to have the complete exterior striped (might do this myself), and would like the complete car painted (inside trunk, engine bay, interior, door jams etc). I talked to *gasp* Maacco and I could get it done for $800-900. They don't completely strip they just treat it and strip the parts that more attention is needed. I'd prefer the exterior paint be completely striped. If anyone has any recommendations on shops (or on how I should prep it myself first etc) it would be appreciated.

thanks

A friend of mine has worked with this guy before - he paints in a shop outside of his house, so it's a small time shop, for sure. If you use him, let him know that a friend of Alain Michot recommended you:

Matt:

Since you are really talking about a complete body: inside & out, trunk
etc. If time is not a factor, I suggest you consider stripping the body
down to the shell and taking it to Carolina Chem Dip
in Greensboro. They do complete paint removal but this is not acid
dipping. They can then coat the body with a rust inhibitor to facilitate
transport and storage until it is sprayed. Having once had to strip a
body completly (Corvette), This is not as much extra work as it sounds
and the other person is left with the mess and nasty chemical fumes.
They do a lot of project cars and pickup trucks.

All you are left with is a shinny new metal body shell. Any rust
would also be completely removed at the same time.

See if Wayne is still working at True-To-Form on Capital Blvd.
(x-AutoAlighment Location). He is the guy who painted the Scirocco
and was buiding a paint booth at his house to do side work last
time we talked.

Building a lightweigt?
