You know how that old "Bones" song goes? Knee bone connected to the thigh bone, etc?

Well: on the rally Focus the new long tube header connected to the new catalytic converter, which connected to the new flex tube, which connected to the old Borla cat-back.

Except that it didn't.

Serious flange mis-match.

So I bolt on one side and vice-grip the other side and go visit Robert at R&J in Apex. He's already working on another car but says if I'm willing to wait he might be able to help out.

<don't bother with the coffee from the neighboring diner - it's awful>

So after 45 minutes or so he puts it up on the lift and was able to cut the offending flange from the Borla pipe and weld a replacement in place (at a better angle for meeting the flex pipe flange too).

Friendly service, quality job, highly entertaining banter between Robert and his assistant (forgot his real name) whom he called "old fat girl". You won't find this pair at your local Meinike! Probably might have been cheaper elsewhere but I'm very happy with the speed and keen to support our sponsors.

I even got my vice-grip back!

Simon

PS: Just need to replace my speed sensor and I'm ready for Rally Tennessee next week.

Why? Do you really need to know how fast you're going? :?

It's the stock speed sensor and, on stage, I almost never look down, especially not to see my speed - too scary. So, on stage, no, I don't need to know how fast we're going.

However, the Terratrip does use the the same signal to keep track of how far we've gone so it needed to get fixed.

Also, the cruise control was upset by the misreading sensor and the computer was confused - it kept illuminating the upshift light - even while I was in top gear!

And, no, I don't use cruise control on stage but it sure is nice to relax on those long transits. That's one reason the A/C is still on the car - at my level of rally driving, the extra weight won't make a difference but having A/C on the transits and waiting for the stage to start will help me get through the day and be safer.

Simon
