It is not a good sign, me typing on a Sunday. Short story, on lap 4 in the first session the transmission locked out of gear.

It is 70/30 that it is the transmission as opposed to the clutch. Either way, both are being replaced. I can not afford to lose 3 days of track time.

Anyone know of a shop that will rebuild the GM T-5 World Class?

Bob Kendrick used to use Tex Racing in Either NC to build the trannies for the Buick.

Their website is http://www.texracing.com/

Jim, sorry you're having the trouble, but let me take this opportunity to point out that if you're going to do this type of event you have to be willing to pay the price sometimes. I can't tell you how much I spent all told for the 13 hour race at VIR last year only to get to drive something like 12 total laps myself. :(

Jim,

I'm sure Gelston's shop (the one Miles Beam recommends) can handle it with either rebuilding the trans himself or getting a quality rebuild or maybe even a brand new one.

I dunno, if it locked in 3rd gear Jim could have run all weekend. Just lift on the straights.

We had hoped to get it into 4th...I would have run the TT in 4th :-) Being a low budget, non-sponsored racer, I yanked the tranny out today and pulled the clutch. Well what remained of the clutch. Over half of the friction material was missing. There were pieces jammed every where.

It does go to show one important point. Go with your gut instinct. If I had followed my instinct after the NASA race, I would have twisted Gelston's arm to put a new clutch in. Lesson learned.

Sorry for the bad luck Jim. I'll be keeping an eye on your choice to rebuild. I have one trans in need of a rebuild out of the car and another in the car that is developing some noise.
