Long story short, my 2000 Honda Odyssey transmission started to fail this weekend. :( It should be covered under an extended warrantee that Honda put in place due to known defects in the 2000-2001 transmissions for Accord, Prelude, Odyssey, and some Acura models. :?

I dropped the car off at Autopark Honda this morning. They don't have a loaner program. So I am out of a car for min 3-4 days.

What is the standard practice in the industry with regards to loaners? Is it common to not offer loaners even for warrantee work? Do you only get this type of service at high end dealerships (i.e. Porsche, etc.)? Can you get a loaner if you bitch enough? Since this is a known defect I think I might have some leverage. Just didn't want to fight with them this morning. Especially since they probably need to look at the vehical to determine what exactly is going on.

For warranty work that will put you out more than a day, I would expect a loaner car. There are plenty of dealer demos out there, it's just a matter of how much you want one. I would give a call to the service manager... Especially for a known problem that they refuse to recall. - AB

I find this technique can get you just about anything from a car dealer,

The easiest way to get something done at a honda/acura dealer is to call there regional manager and complain to him/her. I own a acura tl and it is almost out of warranty. The acura dealer started to fight with me saying the work might not be covered (a brake issue) on a TSB I found. After getting tired of their crap I called the regional manager and explained the situation. About an hour later they called to say the work would be warrantied and they were just finishing up with the complementary car wash.

Thanks for the info…

Rebuilt transmission is on order and will be a full warrantee repair. It is expected to be in on Wednesday. Swap will be a one day job (Thursday?).

When they called to explain all of this and before I could even start to ask about a loaner they said that there should be no problem with driving the car until the new transmission arrives or I could leave the car with them.

The problem with the current transmission is a slow fluid leak that started last week. I am OK with driving it as we only expect to put about 10 miles a day on it today and tomorrow anyhow. If the situation changes I will make enough noise to make sure I am satisfied.
