I'm looking to buy an inexpensive network tester to test wires with rj45 and rj12 connectors. Anybody have any recommendations on what brands/models to choose and/or places to buy online or local?

I basically need to test continuity of wires.

Thanks

Jeff

IMHO, a good multimeter can check this with a Resistance test/diode test(if you already have one), or you could just use a doubleA battery and a cheap LED that can drive it to check small voltages across the wire.

That, or you could buy a whammo-dyne RJ45/RJ11 connect-o thingy that costs $texas, but tells you all the correct pinouts. I have heard tales of such devices, but I have only used the two above.

Edit: I have just multimeters I have gotten from Sears/Lowes, and battery/diodes at Radio Shack.

Cyberguys has a resonably cheap tester to find faults in RJ-45 connections.
