I'm actually going to pull the trigger on striping the Miata. I've seen the stuff that speedgraphics.net sells, and it's hawt, but for two 8" gold stripes, they want me to bend over a little too much.

Does anybody know of a good local source for the good 3M seven year stuff?

I also have googled and found that Phantasm installs the vinyl that they cut and sell for free, but something about going there would bug me a little, but I imagine that they know a whole lot about teh bl!nG y0!!1

TIA

For my Miata, I bought the stuff on Ebay and put them on myself. It's not hard to do. I've done both sets of graphics myself on the Celica and they came out pretty darn nice. If you need help, I have all of the stuff to put them on easily and make it look pretty.

IIRC, Dan Ecclestone and I put on the stripes on my Miata in about 3 hours (about as long as it took to do the entire Celica :)), but we were sipping some cold ones while doing it. - AB

Fancy

But I'm going for more of the Keith Tanner look. Gold on Montego Blue should be worth 8-10 BHP (Bl!nG Horse Power).

Wes,

I don't have a suggestion on where to get the vinyl, but do recommend giving it a go yourself if you've got the garage. I did all the vinyl on the race car and it was easy. All you need is a spray bottle with a weak dishwashing solution in it, and a squeege. (I've also used glass cleaner as the fluid - worked rather well)

Now that said, I've never done something with quite that amount of square footage per piece. About the biggest piece of vinyl on the Integra was about the size of a laptop computer.

Glass cleaner is specifically not recommended by the vinyl manufacturers. Use pint of distilled water, ONE drop of dishwashing liquid and an ounce of isopropol (rubbing) alchohol as an application fluid. If using fluid with transfer tape applications (lettering etc with a top sheet) leave the transfer tape in place until it is completely dry before attempting to remove it. may take several hours-overnight depending on temp and humidity. If you must apply on a rainy day, apply dry.

Chuck's method is good, although I never left things on overnight to dry. It took me about 6.5 hours the first time I did Bryan's GT (some of which was due to a massive hangover) My Celica took about 5 hours for the purplish flames, and the flag flames look (replacing everything) this spring took about about 4 hours. The biggest pieces were 62" x 23" (flames on sides). The best application solution is called Action Tak : Click Here It cleans and preps as well as allowing you to reposition the graphic prior to applying it. Very good stuff. I have a ton of it at home if anyone wants some, for the Celica is again 'naked' as a daily driver.

If you want a 'bible' for instructions, send an email to: vinyl-installation@speedgraphics.net

No need to put anything in the body or subject. It's a bot my sponsor created that will send you a 20 page PDF on graphic installation. It's a very helpful document.

Thanks for the link Aaron. Got the "bible" saved on the hard drive for a possible project in the future.

Chuck, I'm seriously contemplating a full length 3 part race strip for the bimmer, you know, the wide middle strip and then a smaller side strip on either side. Like Wes said, has to be good for about 8-10 extra hp :D What would a basic charge be for something like that? You're welcome to PM me with an answer.

Thanks Chuck,
