Safelite makes their own glass for the fast moving applications. This may not include 3 series BMWs. Their glass is much improved over the last few years but is not up to OEM quality for fit in my opinion. If they do not make it themselves it will probably be a PPG or Pilkington. I have found that the PPG glass is a good fit and goes in with no problems on this car. Pilkington tends to be a little smaller which makes the side mouldings not fit as tight as they should. But I am picky. OEM should be a Sigla or Sekurit if I remember correctly. Also be sure the quote includes a new mouldingaround the top and sides. It is very difficult to reuse the old one and make it fit right.

Bobby Williford installs for Safelite in Raleigh and he does a good job. He has been installing for at least 10 years.

Dan,

I just had the guys from Windshield SOS install another new windshield (that's 2 now in 4 years!!) and one of the side glass a coupld of weeks ago. He was able to get the OEM glass the same day and install it in my driveway. When I called him I gave him all the information that is on the glass and he was able to get it.

He did a great job. I highly recommend him.

I second Windshield SOS. I have used them twice and had great results both times. If you have a deductible, usually they can work it out so you only pay $50, rather than the full deductible.

i got like ten quotes from all over.

Windshield SOS guy was nice and sounded knowledgeable. He quoted me $245 for the sedan and $275 for the coupe using PPG or Pilk glass. A hair higher than average.

Glass Masters in Durham had a really good price.

sedan: $160 w/ tax and the coupe for $170 w/ tax using LOF or Pilk glass. from what i found PPG, LOF, or Pilkington is whati want.

Do you guys know of any reason not to go w/ Glass Mastrs? Thanks

I don't know about the Durham Glass Masters but I used the Raleigh Glass Masters years ago. They did a good job and I had no problems afterward. I just got a quote from the Raleigh store and they wanted $230 for the same installation.

I am going to have the Durham store do a mobile installation on Thursday. I'll let you know how it goes.

I ended up using the Raleigh shop. They matched the Durham shop price. Appear to have done a good job.

At the First Settler's PCA event at VIR South I followed Jeff Bailey out of the pits one session and now have 2 rock dings in the new windshield.
Now I know why folks with nice cars hang back exiting the pits. Lesson learned.

All the way out of the pits, down the front straight. By then they have thrown off all the junk from their r-comps. But you still get all the small pebbles hitting the windshield anyway. Mine looks like someone tried to sandblast it after 10 events...

We won't even talk about how the hood will look in another year...

Had Durham Glass Masters come out and replace the windshield (w/ PPG) for my wife's TL while I was at work last week. The guy was friendly and the work seems to be good. Drove it in the rain and no leaks so far. I only have one small complaint. I noticed a few days later the driver side windshield wiper bolt was pretty rounded off. Apparently he must have tried to loosen it with a standard socket instead of metric?

Anyways, my 2 cents...

I used "Glass Doctor" in Durham to do the windshield on the S4. According to both the woman answering the phones and the guy doing the work, they always do a "full cut" install and pull out all of the old urethane. He did a clean, fine job, with no mess left behind, a can of glass cleaner left there for me, and great customer service. I'm happy with them and have experienced no leaks, no noise, nothing. He was meticulous.

I did notice that since mine is an "unusual" car, she said they'd have to get the glass from the dealer, as opposed to...wherever they usually get it. The quality seems first rate to my eyes, but if it were something like an Accord where they could use their house-brand glass, that one I can't talk to.

anyone have any experience with "Raleigh Glass"?

http://www.raleighglass.com/page4.html

I'm thinking about going with them for the mini. OEM glass installed for $247, including a full cut and replacing the surrounding trim pieces.

Seems high I know, but Flow Mini wanted $500! I guess the curved windshield makes it pricier, or something, as from what I've read online, $247 is a pretty good price. Safelite wants $210, but thats non-OEM glass.

Raleigh Glass has been around a long time. Like any large outfit they installers with different levels of experience. With the difference in what they have to pay for OEM glass vs. other brands $247 is a good price considering they are replacing mouldings too. On some cars the moulding cost more than the glass.
