I'd like to get one set of Kosei K1s painted when I finish off the set of Victoracers on them now. Anyone know who does this locally? Any idea how much (custom color, 15 x 7)? Do I have to remove the tires before bringing them in? Is powdercoat an option if I want a custom color?

Thanks for your recommendations.

Now, Gordon, are you really trying to find someone to paint one of these?

Gordon if you do find a place let me know. I am interested in having a set of my wheels painted/powdercoated as well.

Painting wheels isn't rocket science. Any body shop will most likely do it. Tires dis-mounted of course. If you want powdercoat talk to Chris Schimmel. The guy he uses who did my roll bar and does excellent work.

I prefer the DIY Krylon treatment. If you need more detailed instructions, let me know!

Vince, do you have an e-mail address for Chris Schimmel? I found three places near Raleligh that do powder coating, and I'd like to use the one that you had good results from. I found a kit on-line with a color close to what I want, so I'd probably prefer powder coating to painting. My e-mail is taylor88@peoplepc.com if you don't want to post Chris's in the forum.

By the way, the Whitney-Eargle one-two setup in this thread is the first time I've actually laughed about the plane crash. Cathie found out the plane is already in Delaware, presumably being parted out. Check e-bay next week for great buys on avionics and a low-hours engine for a Cessna 172.

I always heard any landing you walk away from was a good landing!

If history is any indication, I hope you guys have thick skins!

A great landing is one where they can use the plane again. :D

I received a response from Chris Schimmel, but he is using a place in Burlington. If anyone has experience with one of the shops in Raleigh, I'd appreciate knowing who it was. For those of you closer to Burlington, here is Chris' reply:

Gordon,
The powder coater I used for Vincent's car was Advanced Powdercoating in Burlington.I don't know if he would have the color you're looking for ,but Joey can be reached at 336-524-0001.
I've heard of someone by the airport that does good work, but you might throw that out to the THSCC Forum. for me,it's about the same distance either way but Burlington might be a drive for you.
Hope this helps.
later,
Chris

Go with Chris' recommendation. I've got two sets of wheels they powdercoated for me and they came out *awesome*. The guy really knows what he is doing. He did some sort of crazy two step bake to make sure the coating was really durable. I got a nice red on two sets of Volks to get rid of that bronze (ick!).

Yeah, it's way out there. But they do great work.
