Pep Boys is quoting $90 for Raybestos or $37 for a generic (chinese). This is for a daily driver.

1. Can anyone suggest alternative sources for rotors (Ford Focus).

2. Do I really need to pay $53 more per rotor for Raybestos?

Thanks.

Simon

$90 is rediculous for Raybestos, which aren't very good rotors either. I can get you Brembo ones for $40 each by the end of the day tomorrow.

Mnay people have reported good results with the following package:

BAT Special.

Oh, and NOT the slotted rotors. I had good durability from the EBC rotors, and while I have not run Mintex pads in a number of years, the current user seem happy enough.

As for Chinese rotors, I have seen some picture of them being made and they would frighten you. The make the molds by hand, punch random vent holes, poor molten metal with an oversized cup, have no thermal control and machine them on an ancient machine. Not all are this way, in fact many are not, however, unless you work with this kind of stuf everyday, it is unlikely that you can tell "at-a-glance."

Brembo does not manufacture rotors for the Focus.

Umm, Brembo. They are outsourced. You buy them in a Brembo box, with a Brembo number, but they have a co-man relationship with a number of manufacturers and the Focus number was not one that they made in house, at least in 2003.

Well that's a bit of somantics now isn't it? Many manufactures outsorece products and put their names on it. These parst still need to meet their specs and Brembo has a great reputation for just that. I highly doubt they would put their name on a crappy product.

That is what one would hope, but I unfortunately know that is not always what happens. Many manufacturers turn a blind eye to quality when they want to be able to sell themselves as having a complete line. I am NOT saying this is the case with Brembo, but unfortunately, I do not know from where they outsource these rotors. I have been told that Brembo boxes have been spotted in Raybestos plants....

either way if they are actually brembo or raybestos.. the $40 price is better than the $90...

Adam: are there specific parts other than the normal VW/BMW that you can get or will/can you get just about anything? just wondering for future parts needs..

We, Black Forest Industries, specialize in german car parts. But can almost any import part and quite a few domestic parts as well.
