On the way home from work I had a flat. I heard a thump at the rear of the car followed by a wiggle in the rear. I pulled off to find a flat right rear. I put on the spare and went to Discount tire where i purchased the tires since it was only a few blocks away. There was a puncture in the tread. At the store they said they could not repair it because a small spot of cord was visible on the inside. They also would not remount it so I could put in a plug from the outside. So I am stuck having to buy a tire. If I had known I would have gone home and plugged it myself.

Liability.

Take it to a used tire place, I'm sure they'd mount it and plug it without hesitation.

They did not give me the "Bad tire" back. The Salesman tried to sell me a pair of tires because my other tire was about half tread. I should of just demanded my wheel and tire back.

I hate Tire Stores. They are such a rip off.

KeKe's is near me and they seem to have fairly new tires there. I didn't check dates or anything, but I think they might be selling new "old stock" tires as used tires. I think the going rate is $45 a tire or something.

I just was getting some dismounted and they only charge $20 to do four tires there. They are just off of Old Wake Forest road in Raleigh.

I feel your pain. I've had two flats in the last month. The first was on a tire that I was about replace anyway, so it was just an inconvenience, but the one last Friday was on a new tire - I found a 1/2 wide screw head (torx, at that) protruding diagonally from the shoulder. I get to buy another new tire.

I seem to recall an Andy Griffith episode where Golmer was complaining to Andy that his boss at the filling station sold a local widow new tires when Golmer didn't they were needed. Said Golmer: "There's a lot of good miles on the fabric."

I got one of those very short flat head screw drivers stuck in the tire of a Colorado I had 5k miles on back in 2005. It was too close to the sidewall to patch so my tire with 5k miles on it was junk.
