I'm going to be ordering new tires from tirerack for the miata within the next week or so. I've got 1 smallish hiccup when it comes to the mount and balance:

I've currently got 2 sets of wheels and tires (race tires/street tires). The problem is I want to mount my new race tires on the rims that currently hold my street tires, and I want to mount my street tires, that still have plenty of life, onto the current race wheels. It's the old switcheroo, but with tires. Lastly I don't want to pay an arm and a leg to get this work done. I'd appreciate any suggestions, but I'm hoping to stay near my house (east durham near brier creek) or my office (55/54 RTP area).

Thanks

The go to answer is call Jeb Brookshire at the Discount Tire Store on Millbrook at Glenwood in Raleigh a short drive from Brier Creek on 70/Glenwood.

http://stores.discounttire.com/nc/raleigh/ncc-20/

If the Millbrook store isn't convenient enough Jeb might be able to work something out for THSCC pricing at one of the Durham stores.

Also call Jeb before ordering tires. In many cases he can either beat or match the Tire Rack prices either because Discount Tire's prices are lower or by getting the tires wholesale from Tire Rack.

+1 for Jeb.

I had him switch out tires/rims on my Wrangler several years ago (mud tires from alloys to steel, and new all-terrains on the alloys).
It did cost me something like $50 to have them moved to the steel rims, but they did balance them. New valve stems too

Another plus is the lifetime balancing is unlimited. I know other places will only balance at certain mileage intervals.

+2 for Jeb. Order the tires through him at DT. Even if you want to get TireRack exclusive tires like the Rival, he can order them for you and you pay the same price as at TR. You of course have to pay sales tax but you don't pay shipping, so it nets out to about the same price more or less. I've done all my tire business with him now for ~4 years. Jeb runs a great store at the Millbrook location which you can tell by how well the store runs when he isn't there; he's a great manager.

+MORE for Jeb. I have probably spent. . . well, its best not to think about how much money I have spent with Jeb, but he is awesome to deal with. Just recently bought a set of RE71R's from him, and he was willing to charge me now and hold them in the store until after the event on the 17th so I can burn up the last of my Dunlops, but still qualify for the mail in rebate that expires on the 30th. Just very pleasant to work with, great prices, great work by him and his guys.

While Jeb has been great to me as well, I do want to point our pseudo-new sponsor, Automotive Performance Chassis, who is running a special for us this year for $76/set ROAD FORCE mount+balancing (wheels off car, a couple dollars more on car).

"Automotive Performance Chassis" is indeed in the same location as "Performance Chassis and Automotive" that's been around with us for the past handful of years, but is under new management and has some new techs as well. They have stepped up with some great discounts for our membership (see the link above) and are committed to building relationships with the club members, so please consider giving them a shot.

Thanks!
-THSCC Sponsor Guy

I'm actually heading over to see Jeb in the morning to see if he can squeeze me in.

Automotive Performance Chassis is an awesome place too, they have done many repairs on my MINI and done a great job. Reasonable prices and very professional work, and for alignments, there is simply no place else to go.

I'm about to buy my 4th or 5th set of tires from Jeb. Save $$ and a headache and go through Jeb. :D

I just got back from Jeb's store with new rubber on the family truckster. It's always a good experience.

Thanks for the recommendation. I'm waiting for my bonus to come in (corporate office is dragging is feet :stick: ). I'll be contacting Jeb as soon as the check clears though.
