I bought the right exhaust, but was sent the wrong exhaust and it kinda fits. It's been banging around and hitting the subframe more than usual lately, so I need a shop who can modify the exhaust so it won't be a complete travesty and crime against mandrel bent steel.

Thanks.

Based on experience and price I'd recommend Henry's. If you want to see just how much you can pay, go to R & J.

I've been treated fairly by Bob's muffler shop in Garner....

I used to recommend r&j in raleigh (not the apex shop), but after their last price gouging I can no longer recommend them. Henry's is the place to go. They have always been fair with their prices and easy to work with.

I haven't had any type of this work done before, but how much hurt do you guys think I'll be in for? I think they might need to lengthen it a bit and possibly modify the hangers to prevent it from hitting the subframe while clearing the axle and not melting the bumper.

I had Henry's install a cat-back exhaust on the rally car. I got the muffler section from somebody I know and bolted it to a piece of a stock Subaru midpipe. They had to add some pipe to reach the "cat" and weld it at the front and rear of the added pipe - it was $75.

Another recommendation for Henry's, I've used them dozens of times and they were always fair and reasonable.

Necromanced! :) Does anyone have updated findings for custom exhaust work in the triangle?

Now that we got the wife a super low mileage car, it'll be the highway trip car for the family. Which frees me up to make the ST unbearably loud. There's RJ's custom piping on Capital Blvd., not to be confused with R *and* J in Apex.

I can buy a 3", T304 stainless cat back from MBRP for 600 bucks shipped. I'd still like to at least talk to some places and see what they can do one for.

They have always done good work for me, but their prices are all over the place.

Is it stainless? If so, do you care if the added section that might need to be added is non-stainless? It seems like most muffler shops I've called don't weld stainless.

Yes, it's stainless. I'd be after a stainless replacement for the entire catback.

Thanks guys. I'll try and get there for an estimate sometime, see what they say.

How would they modify? Longer hangers I'm guessing?

If anyone can do it on a budget, it's Henry's on Capital. They quoted me only $75 for a muffler delete which I thought was super reasonable.

Karl,
I saw some really impressive tig welding pictures from the fabricator who works at Rudy's diesel performance. Probably not the cheapest option but they are definitely used to working with stainless. FWIW you want a shop that will back purge the exhaust with argon so they don't make a bunch of boogers that intrude into your exhaust flow. I think off the shelf will always be cheaper than a high quality custom job.
