Trapped? There should be a way to use the spring loaded quick release to disengage the door from the closer so you can lift the door manually. Normally there's a pull cord on the quick release, maybe yours is MIA?

i disconnected the electric opener, but the torsion bar snapped at one end so i can't lift it back up

Is something somehow blocking the door from being raised? If the spring is broken, you still should be able to lift the door up, but it'll be heavy as hell and you might need 2 people to do it- then once it's up you'll need to securely prop it up (think 2x4 or similar between the bottom edge and the ground).

the broken torsion bar was blocking it from being raised. the repair guy showed up a few minutes ago and just shook his head at the "low end builder grade" door and hardware. lucky me. otherwise i'd have been able to lift it since, being an incredibly cheap model, the entire door weighs about eight pounds.
