All - the F250's center mount brake light won't come on. It's not a bulb, it's not a fuse, and I need to get it inspected. Any suggestions on where I could take it? I know it's unlikely that any place will ignore a bad brake light, but maybe I'll get lucky.

Run a temp relay, wire and light from the brake switch.

Money can't buy happiness, but somehow it's more comfortable to cry in a Porsche than a Kia.

If you come down to Sanford, there's a place here thats passed my budies car that had no e-brake cable attached (which SHOULD have failed it). Its right off of US1 at 15-501.

Just Inspections in Cary has always done right by me. They passed the 210 one time with a brake light out. I did not notice the light untill the guy drove the car into the bay and hit the brakes. The inspector asked me if I was going to fix it. I said yes I will buy a bulb on the way home.

Yep, Snappy Lube on Leesvile Rd at I540 seems pretty reasonable for inspections. I've been taking our cars there for years, one of the techs seems interested in trying an autocross.

Just Inspections passed the 210 again. Not that there was anything wrong with the car except for being able to see through the fenders in places.

The place over near the Harris Teeter on Leesville road, where I used ot work. There is a gas station there, also there is a inspection place. That place is where I have been getting my car inspected for years now.

Just a quick note, attempting to get a passing inspection on a car that will not technically pass is a felony in NC, and the DMV has many inspection stations under surveillance.

My integra has an evap leak.....but a car (by NC law) from 96-00 can have 2 'non-ready' readiness system checks. Luckily if I reset my ecu and drive 5-8 miles 5 out of 7 are ready so I will just do that every year. The 6th (catalyst efficiency) will pass successfully after about 20 miles, but by then the evap system throws a code. Not a felony, just playing by the rules ;).

You need to teach me how to play this game.

My Miata had the PITA P0470 code (boost sensor malfunction) which I finally fixed by cleaning the plugged EGR port inside the intake mainfold. I was excited to have it fixed when after 20 miles a new code appears (I forget the number), which is diagnosed as excessive EGR flow. The funny thing is 'excessive' can mean too much or too little according to what I have read. :? Also I have read where Mazda techs have replaced the entire EGR system (a new EGR ain't cheap) and the code is still there.

Can I reset the ECU and pass with this one code?

Possibly, my scanner has a readiness check test, so I can monitor pending codes, set codes, and the X readiness tests and then get to the inspection station and be ready to go :).

It really depends on who you ask. I can gaurantee that the DMV inspectors would consider what you are doing a felony, and that you would spend a lot of time and money on court dates and lawyer fees before getting the charges dismissed, just like I did.

I may have an EGR valve in my garage, I'll look for you and bring it to CMP if I have it.

You cannot pass with a problem code set , or at least with the CEL illuminated.

But you can pass with one or more codes "non-ready" depending on the year.

If the OBD system hasn't tested a particular code since the last reset it is marked "non-ready".

The order and timeframe to set/test codes varies quite a bit, the EVAP can be a particularly slow one.
