Anyone know a good local vendor for head work? I need to get the remains of my pistons cleaned up off my head and would rather a professional do it than try to do it myself and junk a head.

Found a thread from 2003 but it's pretty old now and would like any recent feedback about the shops around here.
Specifically wondering about how the new machinist worked out at T-hoff.

viewtopic.php?f=15&t=378 is the old thread.

My heads are at Cylinder Head Specialties currently getting freshened up and new valves/springs. George is the guy there, and he seems very knowledgeable. That one is mentioned in the old thread and comes recommended by many THSCCers over the years, it is a bit of a haul out there if you live anywhere other than Wake Forest/North Raleigh. Also if you go there, be aware that is it kind of hard to find the first time, they are situated behind and in between a small used car lot and a storage facility and have no signage at the road.

I used them for the heads on my truck and they did a good job on them

That's them, and they are the place to go IMHO.

The official name of the shop is "Cylinder Head Specialties", but all the cool kids call them CHS. ;)

But, like Les mentioned, it's kind of hard to find them the first time you go- you have to pull into the used car lot (Hollingsworth) and then go to the building in the back- they do have a small sign on the building, but you can't see it until you get back there. Star Rd is the service road that runs on the east side of Capital Blvd/US1 from Mitchell Mill Rd up to where US1A turns off to the right towards downtown Wake Forest.

Thanks for the recommendations. I'm dropping the head off tomorrow at CHS.
