Where's the best deal in Raleigh for auto-x letters and numbers? I went by American Sign Shops on Glenwood (now called Signs by Tomorrow) and they wanted like $50 for a total of ten characters...nothing fancy, just cut out letters and numbers. That seems pretty steep and they also don't remember offering a discount for THSCC members. Any ideas?

Might give my Dad a call in Richmond, VA for a quote. He'll work via Phone/Fax/E-mail with you. He's done stuff for both the club and several club members in the past. I haven't a clue what things cost though, I'm his kid so I get the ultimate discount. If you want his contact info, hit me up with a PM.

The other idea is Mike Whitney "$5 numbers". http://www.honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=559716 (dial-up beware... pic intensive)

THSCC has a rake-off deal (-15%) with American Sign Shops in Raleigh. They're located in the Oak Ridge shopping center near the intersection of US 70 West and Duraleigh Rd.

Patrick,

I got 2 14" circles with numbers laid up but the circles not cut out for $18 for the pair from American Sign Shop on Glenwood earlier this year.

Another option is to go to a sign shop and buy some sheet magnetic and make your own numbers. I printed LARGE font jumbers on Power Point and used that as a stencil.

The magnetic material at the sign shops is usually stupid expensive. McMaster-Carr sells nice cheap stuff (in colors!). I have made several sets of numbers using the power-point stencil approach.

McMaster-Carr is online and takes credit cards as well:

The colored stuff is about $2.20 a sqft:

You can also go to Michael's or A.C. Moore and get their sheet magnetic. It is thinner material and is good for autox but, as I found out at VIR-S in April, will fly off the car at about 115 mph. I never did find that '2'.

KC (Keith Casey) at http://www.rallydecals.com/index.html makes very nice vinyl graphics. He made the blue magnetics that I use on the WRX. IIRC the whole set was $35 for both sides, three digits, two classes.

What Patrick was saying was that he did go to American Sign Shops on US70 and that they didn't know anything about a discount. Perhaps this thread should really be in the "Vendors" forum, because I can add that I went to ASS (I can see why they changed their name... :brow: ) for some magnetics, and they didn't give me a discount , either. I was also not at all impressed with their attention to my order, nor the quality of the result.

Thanks for all the ideas guys. Looking into plain sheets to make my own seemed more expensive at first, but some of the places you've found have good deals. I'll check 'em out. Oh, and he A.S.S. I went to was the one on glenwood and hillsborough st. I might try the one on hwy 70.

For anyone interested in magnetics, try Squiers Design. Michael Squier is an aurocorsser, among other things, and has 2 solo II packages. Very reasonable.

I've just bought a vinyl cutter and can cut most anything you want up to 13.5 x 39.5" at VERY reasonable prices. I also have magnetic sheet and clear static cling film.

What Patrick was saying was that he did go to American Sign...

OK, this forum is the perfect venue for feedback on our supporters. Amer. Sign had definitely offered THSCC a 15% discount. If they are not living up to their commitments, the Mgr. of Business Development needs to hear about it. As the incumbent in that position, I'll call them when I get back in town, and see what the story is. If they make excuses, get amnesia, stutter, back-pedal or even hesitate to make things right, there will be NO second chances. We simply remove them from our "Approved Vendor List" and put them on "The THSCC Shit List". This is a permanent position, and carries all of the deserved shame and averice due someone whom has screwed one of our members.

With all of the options we have in spending our hard-earned bucks, we don't need to give ink to folks like these.

Brad,
While I did go to the American Sign Shops on Hillsborough St., it wasn't necessarily the one people say give discounts, so don't be too hard on the store on 70, I never did get around to talking to them. Certainly check up on the shops though, it's a good idea to make sure they're living up to their end of the deal.
I'll be buying a set from Chuck, as his price seems tough to beat and makes a good pitch for himself

Lowes. Just get the magnetic vent covers and cut out the numbers. These vents covers are white magnetic strips used to cover the AC/heat vents inside your house to fully seal them. Works well and is cheap.
