Well, since fully 1/2 of our senior officers are out of the country, it's time to stir up some stuff :)

Anyone have any ideas for a new monthly meeting venue? If you haven't noticed, it's getting a bit crowded at good ole Morrisville Golden Corral. AND they don't serve beer. Not good at all.

However, GC is great for the fact that it doesn't rely on food servers, which can get, ah, complicated with a mob of 70+ car nuts.

So, any ideas for a place that is (1) good, (2) reasonably priced, and (3) can handle up to (gasp!) 100 people?

Thanks!
Mike

Do we really need monthly meetings? What is the purpose of the meetings? Honestly, if I weren't an officer I would help with the over crowding problem and not go at all.

Gee, since I got food poisoning from our last meeting there I wonder what I will vote. :toilet: Beer would be good and somewhere that has a bigger room.

I would agree with Scott if we had no attendence at the meetings. Since attendence is at overflow levels, there must be something to attract us. There is a big room at Stonehenge over on Cary Parkway. Maybe we could get a discount price for a group meeting

One of the major reasons to continue to have a monthly meeting is one of the major reasons this club is still in existence after 40 yrs. As it says on the side of the bus: Autocross - Time Trials - Rally - SOCIAL.

Agreed that a location with a larger meeting room would be nice. Unfortunately, we've visited this subject probably half a doz times since I've been in the club & have had a really hard time finding something besides places like Golden Corral.

Here are some things we've either considered or done. Maybe this will stir some new thoughts from some new folks...

We once threw out maybe trying to rotate locations, but that was never pursued. Pluses to that are a variety of foods & it changes the travel distance so that it's not always near or far for the same people. Major minus is making sure everybody knows the location for each month.

We've also had the meeting at places like the go-kart track over on Tryon Rd. The room was small & hot & the food was terrible. But, the meeting was short & then we all rode go-karts. :D

When we use to have the meetings at the Ryan's on Atlantic Blvd, we'd sometimes make the meeting short & then a sizeable bunch would go over to the the go-kart track/game room on Capital Blvd & either ride or play the car games or both.

Especially with the warmer months just ahead, anyone have other ideas for new venues or possible variations on the regular meetings?

Don Murray's BBQ Lodge on Capital near the beltline has a good sized meeting room that can be closed off, an excellent Buffet, reasonable prices. Just no beer... :(

I always thought the popularity of the meetings was because of Karl K. and Mike inviting their "trophy presenters" to the meetings?

In the distant past we used to use BBQ Lodge. I cannot count the number of times I got food poisoning there. Traffic lights are terribly long with BBQ churning in your gut. We also used to meet at Jerry's Wodden Nickel on Atlantic Ave. near New Hope Church Rd. It is still a resturant with another name. They had full ABC permits at the time.
