Anyone else on here gotten the invite for iRacing yet?

I got mine last week, finally got around to downloading and trying it out. So far I'm pretty impressed with it. I went ahead and paid the extra $20 for VIR... and MAN is it worth it. You will not find a better version of VIR (ALL Configs!) on any sim out there.

Anyone else who wants details... www.iracing.com

Here's a glimpse at it, courtesy of YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fIkuIx9hL9Y

What wheel do you have Stacy?

Edit: Jeez. We're talking about iRacing. Not iDrifting.

:P

Maybe an ITR in DS.
Or half-assed STX prepped 330.

I haven't been keeping up with the sim-racing stuff - I'll have to check it out.

Decently pimp ... should probably be dual core, at least 2G RAM, mid-high level graphics card.

If your PC will run GTR2 or rFactor, it should be fine for testing... once you start racing though, I'd imagine you'd want the most you can get, cause its VERY taxing when there are multiple cars moving around all over the place. I just started testing, and my Everex laptop is running it fine with an Athlon Turion 64x2, 3G RAM.

Must have a high-speed net connection. Here are the official harware requirements:

System Requirements
# Windows XP or Windows Vista
# Hyperthreaded Intel CPU, AMD Athlon 64 CPU, or any dual-core CPU
# 128MB Pixel Shader 2.0 (ATI 9700Pro or nVidia 6600 or better); 256 MB Pixel Shader 3.0 (ATI X1600 or nVidia 6800 GT/GS or better recommended) graphics adapter
# 1 GB system RAM
# 3Gb free hard disk space
# Steering wheel and pedals required
# Microphone optional, required for voice chat

Internet Browser Requirements
# Firefox 1.5, Internet Explorer 6, or newer
# Javascript enabled
# Cookies enabled
# Flash Player

Internet Connection Speed
# 56K dial-up at a minimum, Broadband (DSL or Cable) highly recommended. Satellite broadband excluded.

Biggest hurdle most people will have to get over is the cost of this sim... it's not a stand-alone game where you then add on user created content. It's much more like SCCA or IMSA or FIA online. You're buying into a complete and comprehensive sanctioning body that develops and hosts racing series online.

I don't see that as being a insurmountable hurdle. Xbox live seems to do well with their subscription based stuff.

It's more a hurdle for the people used to paying $20 for GTR2 or $40 for rFactor and then getting all the content in the world for basically free. But the biggest benefit to this is that it should keep 99.9% of the hacks and pre-schoolers out of the races.

Hey Ryan...

Maybe this iracing thing can help you keep your skills up while you take some time off from the track

The biggest hurdle I'm facing is if it'll run in an emulated Windows XP on my Mac.

Intel-based? Why not dual-boot?
