I have no doubt that THSCC will be sucessful now and in the future, however, I also would *like* to see us have a good standing in the motorsports community as a whole, and it's pretty clear we've got some work to do on that front.
So, the best solution? Do what we do best. Keep striving to run the best events possible.
For those of you that have been keeping up with all the other club forums, there has been a bit of confusion/hostility going around about the NCAC event that was planned for August 19-20, 2006. It was decided yesterday that we would move the event from the Greensboro Coliseum to the Old Sanford Airport after we found out we couldn't get insured for the event due to a beer festival that was being held on the premises the afternoon of August 19th. There has been a lot of speculation regarding this amongst the other clubs, and at this point, it isn't worth discussing the details as they will rehash the fire that was started yesterday.
Last night, the powers that be from the other local NC clubs had a discussion regarding the situation and decided to do what they thought was best for the autocross society within North Carolina. They will be holding an event on the weekend in question in Greensboro that will tentatively be called the "Carolina Autocross Championship". They plan to invite the 4 original NC clubs as well as a new club that has started up in Hickory NC, the Coastal Carolina Chapter of SCCA, and clubs from South Carolina. They have asked us to join them in participating and funding this event. The officers of THSCC have discussed this and would like your input in regards to what THSCC's involvement should be in this event. Our options are outlined below.
Option A: Move our event from the weekend of August 19-20th to August 13th. In addition it could be advertised as the "Carolina Autocross Championship" warm-up event. We would support the "Carolina Autocross Championship" being held the following weekend at the GBC financially (about $1500.00) as well as whatever other logistic and or personnel support they might require from us as a club.
Option B: Our event will be the same as option A, however, we would not financially or logistically support the event being held in Greensboro the following weekend as a club. Our members of course would be free to attend it as they like.
This thread isn't really for discussion or speculation. Comments are welcome, but if they are negative or in anyway bash one of the other clubs, they will be deleted. At this point, it really isn't worth digging back up any of the stuff that has transpired over the last week or so regarding what happened to the original event. There was much miscommunication involved both within our club as well as between all the clubs.
In an effort to put all that behind us, please focus on the decision at hand and what you feel is best for our club as well as the North Carolina autocross society as a whole.
This poll will be open for 24 hours before we respond to the other clubs.
