One of the perks of THSCC membership is access to the forums. Only THSCC members and a few special cases (Track program staff who may not be THSCC members, etc.) should have access to the forum.

So, it is the time of the year (actually doing this late) in which we compare the membership list against the forum membership. Those who have not renewed for 2006 will have their forum account deactivated. This also includes access to the online Heel and Toe as the password used to access that is posted here on the forum and will change after we clean up the forum membership for 2006.

I have compared the list of active forum user accounts against the membership list that Bowie maintains. The list below is of those who are going to be loosing their forum access. The list is big and it contains a number of forum regulars and autocross regulars! I will be giving everyone about a week to review the list and then I will be deactivating accounts. If you do end up renewing after the account has been deactivated, I can reactivate your forum account. Deactivating an account is not the same as deleting it. Post history, etc. will still exist while an account is deactivated.

If you know that you have just forgotten to renew for 2006, then use the form from the main THSCC web site…

http://www.thscc.com/general/forms/mem_app.pdf

The form contains information on both how to join initially as well as how to renew your membership.

If you feel you already have renewed for 2006 AND you are on the list below, please contact Bowie Gray at memberships@thscc.com to resolve your membership status. For forum access issues, please contact the Forum Admin Staff at forums@thscc.com

Money can't buy happiness, but somehow it's more comfortable to cry in a Porsche than a Kia.

This is the list of names to be de-activated or the list of current members?

If it's this list of accounts to be de-activated then:

This is the list of those to be deactivated. You DONT want to be on this list. Yes, there are some interesting names on the list. It is easy to forget to renew. :)

Let's see, that's about 170 "members", give or take, times $25 dues for 2006 = $4,000+ coming in soon! Or, a large jump in AutoX and HPDE non-member entry fees.

We can throw a hell of a party on that kinda jack!! 8)

Matt,

You just have to keep your membership current.

WOW, that is a long list- with alot of (irr)regulars names on there.

I would also like to have online renewal- I think it would save alot of time and hassle for everyone involved. I'll again volunteer to keep track of the Paypal account, or help with it, manage it, or whatever.

I'd pay $1 or so extra to renew online vs. having to mail it (39 cent stamp, envelope, etc).

Let's face it, we're almost 5 months into the year, that is a pretty big list of folks who have not paid their dues yet. Even at just 2-3% interest, that's alot of $$ the club is missing out on. If we offerred online payments, and made a big push to get everyone renewed and paid by Jan 15th or 30th, I think we'd be better off.

Let's make it so.

Bret

EDIT: Just re-read Richard's post, and that list is folks who have not renewed who are about to lose forum access, so I wonder how many others (without forum access) are intending to renew, but haven't gotten around to it yet- the list just gets bigger!!!!

PayPal for renewals is not as simple as PayPal for an event. Carl has thought some about what needs to happen (programmatically), but just hasn't had time to mess with it. Again, if you're a programmer (not someone who plays one on TV--that's me) who is willing to do some programming work on this project, contact Carl (start with an email to webmaster@thscc.com). Bowie has no prob going the PayPal route, but there are identification & payment verification issues that have to be addressed first. I calced the required fees a while back; more than $1, I think, but not more than most folks would be willing to pay for the convenience.

Those are the key things. ME, Carl, myself and a few others know that we have wanted to somehow build a better system that ties everything together. We have club membership, forum membership, event registration and event PayPal payment and all of these currently do not use a common "ID" to tie people together. When you become a club member, you get an ID. But this ID is not used elsewhere (yet). Ideally we can tie it all together. Right now it is a lot of manual data entry and manual name matching which is a pain.

Lets say my club membership is via "Richard Casto". I register for events as "Richard (Honda Boy) Casto". My PayPal event fee (I think) uses that same "name" to tie me to who registered. My forum name might be something like "RichCasto". All these names are slightly different, but valid under the current system. Because of this, it is impossible to link these up in an automated way reliably without using a unique ID throughout.

So we have ideas on how to make this work. What we lack is the bodies to do the programming work. This project starts/stops every six months or so due to waning interest.

If this ends up turning into a big discussion about PayPal renewals (I am sure we all would love an automated method to renew), I can break these posts of into another thread as this really was just an announcement thread. :)
