BMW CCA runs a teen driving program that teaches safety in the correct environment. I have helped with one and it is not an autocross. While there is no doubt that the skills learned at an autocross can save your life as they have mine, in my opinion, inviting someone under the pretense of making them a safer street driver is disingenuous. It is a racing event and there might be a byproduct of better car control, but that is not the purpose nor is it a certainty.

There was a "driver's education" group at Sanford one saturday before our Sunday autocross. They charged over $300 for the entry fee to that.

Then those people are welcome to attend those events.

It's what I do when I see a bunch of cones. Sometimes, I get defensive and start hitting those offensive little things.

My opinion is that it is full awareness and anticipation of the drivers and conditions around you. It cannot be fully taught at an autocross event because you (hopefully) are never close enough to another car to have to be concerned with their actions.

During the Rockingham classes, Chuck was promoting a safe teen drivers class at the Charlotte speedway. The officiers should get that information and pass it along to people that contact them.

The description of that school is what these parents are looking for.

Not sure that school would teach drivers how to save an RX8 at 105 mph while drinking though.

No, the reduced speed limit through that section has that covered.

I've seen that turn, and I doubt seriously that anyone in a street car with street tires could sucessfully negotiate that turn at that speed.

I know Chuck had the best intentions, but IMO we (THSCC) don't want/need the attention from any print or electronic media. IIRC, Mike Whitney was approched by a TV reporter about doing a story on our activities at the RBC Center. Mike declined after deciding the attention it would get us would most likely not be all positive and may attract the F&F element to our events.

If they weren't abiding by the speed limit in the first place, why would anyone think lowering the speed limit will or would make any difference. Apparently the existing speed limit was working because they didn't crash into a pile of wadded up cars. :?

Supposedly the speed limit reduction was already in the works prior to that accident. Regardless, I am sure we all agree that a change in the posted limit would not have stopped that accident.

Sorry if I offended the club by invoking their name, I'll call the reporter back and tell him you aren't interested in publicity or new members and how bothersome it is to have to explain to callers the difference between AX and drivers ed.

PS: he and I corresponded at great length about what AX is. I had no control as to what he chose to quote.

This is the proper venue to teach teen drivers Xtreme Measures.
