I think that I have noticed a change in how likely THSCC results are to be picked up by search engines. Last year and earlier if I did a search on a “name” (“first last”) and “autocross” I would get numerous hits of THSCC autocross event results. This no longer happens. I consider this a good thing because it makes it less likely that insurance companies will be cruising the internet to get names of THSCC autocrossers. My question for our webpage experts is what changes did we make? It is nice to be able to get the results from the results page but not have them show up in searches.

We had some discussion about this a while ago (last year?) and at that time we mentioned several easy things we could do to tell well-behaved web spiders not to index our results pages. We made those changes, and I've noticed that at least Google doesn't return them as hits anymore.

The directives we've given to the web spiders are, strictly speaking, voluntary, so I'm sure there are some out there indexing our results pages anyway, but I'm happy that we've at least made ourselves considerably less visible.

Money can't buy happiness, but somehow it's more comfortable to cry in a Porsche than a Kia.
