So in other words a novice may now get "real" wood at every event, while a regular member can get none at all?

Everyone that earns a trophy will get one. The trophy may look different depending on the class that it is awarded for.

In this case, we have enough extra "wood" to continue trophies for some people, so why not do it. Beyond that, the "trophy tree" isn't bearing much fruit this year. Its simple economics. We'd rather keep entry fees the same than finance the trophy program by jacking them up.

Believe it or not, this decision helps the MAJORITY of the people that autocross with the club, since we give out trophies to a minority of the participants.

Yes, with my support (and encouragement) the Autocross VP's have made some changes for this year, some may work out, some may suck. Fortunately, it won't be the end of the world if things suck. If we don't like what's happening, then we can go back to the "old" way next year.

Change doesn't have to be bad, however, people that are totally unaccepting of it will NEVER see the up side.

Scott

Before we try to plan out the novice program in this and other posts, public, thscc, or whatever, why don't we wait and let Graham and I who are the Novice Coordinators for this year plan the program with input from the members as needed. We will run this by the officers who can suggest/order :) changes which will include trophies, bumping into open, etc.

You can keep this discussion to whining about getting or not getting trophies, carrying or not carrying them to meetings, making them magnetic, taped, taped magnetic, superglued or whatever. (For the record, my dash plaques are stuck to the rim of my monitor at work)

I don't care one way or the other about the trophy's. If I did I wouldn't be driving the cars I do now.

I was pointing out an issue I saw with the new way of doing things that doesn't seem fair/appropiate. A little consistancy is all I am talking about.

I do remember an online pool that said pretty much leave things the way they were.

I remember this poll in which Kevin Allen posed an excellent question.

The majority of us do this because it's fun. Certainly when any of our type get together there will be competition and bragging rights, but do you *need* a trophy to prove it?

I for one (I expect I'm not alone here) have run out of room for the standard 5x7 wooden trophies. Sure they meant a lot to me when I was a noob, but now I enjoy the season "battle" more than the event "fight".

The noobs will still receive the all important wooden trophies, while the rest of us will get smaller tokens to remind of us of our goal, the season championship. Of course the year end trophies will still be very nice (maybe even nicer) as they have been in years past.

As Scott has stated it's all about economics. We have a new bus and trailer to pay for, not to mention increased site fees, insurance costs, etc. Unlike the US Government, we do not have an unlimited supply of money. It was either cut some costs or raise entry fees and we chose the former over the later.

I find it funny that the two events that we have had magnetic plaques we chaired by guys with fiberglass cars!!!

Sorry, just a random observation.

Now back to regular bickering.

Oh believe me, it is quite ironic. I used to autox a metal car so I was thinking that maybe it was something that those without plastic cars would enjoy. You don't know how much I miss just just being able to slap on the magnetic numbers and being done with it!

You may remember that Dishman's column when he was President was known as the "Plastic Pooh-bah".
