There has been some talk about "revamping" the trophy system for THSCC Autox'es.

Please vote in the poll and feel free to post your thoughts on trophys in general.

Thanks!!

If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

I feel that it keeps n00bs around like a carrot on a stick, and to preempt any financial talk, I've seen more than my fair share of people deny wood, and they always have the option of they big un for the dash plaques as well.

This new idea would not affect Novices. They would still get wood if they win.

I voted for no trophies, but that's just for me. I think a lot of people like the trophies and I have no issue with that. If you drive well, it symbolizes that, and should be awarded. - AB

Yeah, but I've seen a lot of one and done novices. I'm talking about the guys (like me) that are just getting started and participate in several events a year.

I know Jim F really liked his ribbon from the SCarolina region event. Maybe we can give out ribbons?

Agreed! I wanted to get the general pulse of what people like and dont like about the current trophy program. I like getting "something", and currently I do the "Year Long" trophy, it doesnt clutter up the house and it fullfills the "I got something" need.

For Novice class, I think we need to continue to do the current trophies. Thats the hook to bring them into the fold. I know I wanted that first Novice trophy BAD!!!

What we are trying to do is simplify and reduce cost. Right now, you could get 8 small trophies, and 1 year end season points trophy OR 1 Season Events Trophy and 1 Year end trophy. Thats ALOT of wood!

IMHO, it would be neat to see all the event dash plaques, with finishing positions and the season points finishing position on ONE trophy. I dont have a trophy room nor do I think anyone else does. I think we could even expand upon the positions given out at the trophy presentation since there is no "wood" involved, it would most likely be a magnet.

Right now this is in the brainstorming phase, so all ideas are WELCOME.

If you dont offer a plan, dont plan on bitching with what happens :P

Also I would say, except for Novices, NO wood at all for any non members.

The whole membership has its benefits thing

I vote for one big trophy. I don't need a collection of little trophies to remind me how good I am, just one big one every year.

We can still do the little trophies for novice class (since that isn't a year long class). The annual wood would (ha, punny) still have a way to indicate a first, 2nd, etc.

For those that think that "little" trophies we give at events are cool, I request that you voluntuer to manage and HAUL them for a few events. I've done it for 2 years now, and believe it or not, that is one reason (of many) that I have a tow vehicle for my stock car that I run on street tires.

We're doing the full-year trophy boards right now, which IMHO is much better as you get a place to hang event plates even when you don't <sniff> get a trophy. I suggest something on the order of:
1. No wood for non-members - dash and positioning plates only
2. Anual membership includes a year-long board, to be claimed in the first events of the year..
3. ONLY dash and placement plates to be given at events, except for new members who can claim their year-long boards as well.
4. Year-End positioning plates to close out the season on the trophy board

The downside, of course, is that EVERY member now gets a big chunk of wood. In the long run, however, It may still have some cost savings?

Regarding "obsoleting" the small trophies and REPLACING with a season long: Keep in mind this *could* increase costs for the club - if some people who would only get one or two trophies gets the big one instead.

Making it optional as we have in the past seems to work well. I'd be interested in seeing a real cost calculation to see where our money is going.

Scott - do you have the prices for the 4x6 wood, 8x11 wood, 4x6 metal, 8x11 metal, dash plaque, and place "adder"s? Even a ballpark idea would be interesting to note.

I definitely think we should keep encouraging people who believe they will be getting more than 4 or so trophies to take the yearlong, but it might not be a good idea to make it a rule.

I do agree with Scott though - making and hauling those trophies is quite a bit of work. I did it for 2 years!

I also think Adam might be onto something - members only. Problem I see with that is that it will be a pain to administer. Keep a list? Or ask each person who comes up if they're a member? Remember the concept MORE COMPLICATED = BAD!

I doubt we will be able to come up with a cheaper AND simpler trophying option, unless we eliminate one of the 3 types altogether. But there might be some other ideas out there...

I didn't vote since (1) I've never gotten that many trophies, and (2) don't live there anymore, but I somehow managed to get myself volunteered for Trophy Chair up here. They've given out beer-type mugs the last couple of years and people seem to have a large enough collection of them so it's time to get something else. Feedback I've gotten in random conversations told me that these folks liked some little magnetic cones another club gave out a few years back. I plan to take that idea a little farther and do a magnetic type trophy...

For size, 6 will fit on a 8.5x11 sheet of paper. It will include the club logo, probably some cones, and what place they got. Perhaps even event # too. I also plan to see if I can get little class letters so people can add their class to their trophy if they want.

Not much to store or carry. Can "personalize" it with the class for little or no trouble. People can decorate their cars (and don't we all go through the "see just how many magnetics we can fit on the car" stage), or if you're past that, everyone can use refridgerator/washer/dryer magnets.

Downside for THSCC I see is that dash plaques wouldn't be done anymore. Don't know how the membership would take that. They were around when I first was around the club in 1996.

I'll be talking to Dad about making them up for us pretty soon. If there is an interest in this kind of magnetic trophy, I can let you know how NERs turned out and what the cost was, etc.

Diane

Wow, that would be elitist! No other club I have ever competed with has refused me a trophy or dash plaque because I was not a member of their club.

Benefits to membership, early registration, discount event fee and end of the year trophy (which are very nice).

What events do club members received discounts for? The only one I can remember was the Rally-x at rockingham where you got a discount for bringing in new participants.
