"1. No wood for non-members"
Surely we can defend our trophies without resorting to this.....What would happen if Triad stopped giving all of their 1st and 2nd place trophies to THSCC members?

For those of you who are regularly bringing home trophies the simple solution is....stay home! :D

My distant history had me taking home quite a few trophies, many of which will never see the light of day until they are setteling my estate, however, the trophies make nice little additions for "cube dwellers" and are the starting points for many BS stories that can help with newbee recruitment.

I really liked Diane's suggestion regarding magnetics. It would be really cool to have little 1st and 2nd place traffic cone magnets printed with the event name/date. The driver with the most little magnetic cones on the driver's door is the reigning "Ace". I would imagine that the cost for the magnetics would be far less than for the wood trophies. The cost may be so low that it would justify making surplus trophies to cover any possible number of participants in any class. Also, the little magnetic cones would probably be easily displayed on metal cubicles all over the Triangle (and beyond).
We need to find a magnetic printer with a die cutting machine....hmmmm a little side business opportunity.

Isn't this forum for THSCC members only? My last recollection is that Rob didn't pay his dues? If you're not going to contribute, and you are already here as a guest, then I suggest you not abuse the privlege.

Here's a new twist...

How would you have voted for the above propositions if we added this stipulation:

"To continue to pay for increased insurance and site fees we have a choice:

1) Have everyone subsidze the trophies at $5 per head per event.
or
2) Cut back on the number/quality of trophies awarded."

Honeslty, I'm not sure why half of you would want to pay an extra $5 per event just so I can keep taking home more wood :)

What I'd like to see next year:

1) Streamlined (cheaper) trophy presentation.
2) Free (or no more than $1) raffle for everyone at the trophy presentation.

We would have our sponsors contribute things like "Free Mount and Balance" or "Free Alignment" coupons for the raffle. Maybe some significant coupons if they don't want to give it away...

Instead of just giving the same 12 people fancy stuff EVERYONE at the trophy presentation would have a chance to win.

Just thinking out loud.

Scott

FYI Charlie, I suggested this idea a year ago. It not's dead just yet either...stay tuned.

My records indicate that a certain someone didn't even run any THSCC events this year either.

Which reminds me, I have some purging to do. Now where did I lay that membership list?

I'll still stick with my idea on the large trophy board thanks. I realize for some of you "old timers" that you have enough "wood" at your house. Some of the newer people are enjoying these trophies :D Maybe in a few years I'll be bored with the trophy thing and have a different opinion.

Like I said before. During membership renewal and/or at the beginning of the season. All members will purchase from the club a large trophy board which includes the wood and the Tarheel logo peice with the year on it. The club will not even buy small ones for events.

The club will purchase the event dash placards as usual which every paying entrant can receive one. The club will pay for the 1st-Nth place metal position strips. Now Scott carries a small bag of placards and position strips to events and doesn't need a truck

Now you have removed that "cost for wood" and dragging them around. The club only buys the year end trophies.

Even if you don't position all year long you still have a large trophy board with the club/year etc and can stick all the event placards on it. I plan on putting all mine on it regardless of what position I finished in.

And if you think the whole thing is a waste of money then don't buy the wood. Stick the placards on whatever or don't even take one.

Graham

Placards=magentic. You can place them on your car, your refridgerator, toolbox, or on a trophy board.

Did anyone else see the irony in that the only magnetic dash plaques this year had plastic cars on them?

I like the full year board so I have a place to display event dash plaques. A place for a season points plaque on the board would be great. Charge $5.00 to members for the season board so whoever wants one can have one ($10.00 if a non-member wants one for some reason.) Adjust price as needed. Eliminate all small boards. BUT, just an idea, in addition have a 2005 THSCC t-shirt (or whatever year) for any "trophy" winners. Could say "I won at a THSCC autocross and all I got was this t-shirt." Or any other thing. One t-shirt per member per year. For non-members provides a "trophy" in place of wood. Provides incentive to be among the "elite" to get a t-shirt. Only one shirt design to keep the cost down. Anyway, just another idea. I'm sure it could be fine tuned further, if there is any interest.

I would (wood) still like to get trophies, as I have run out of room on my monitor at work on which to stick the dash plaques for the events where I did not trophy. (As I have a 22" monitor that is overfull, it is obvious that my driving needs to improve)

The best thing to do IMHO would be to stop giving away the small wood and have everyone do the big year long woody thus saving precious wall, garage, or monitor space.
