Yeah 15 years ago was before my time, although just a little bit before my time.

If Roger doesn't win heel of the month/year for this I don't know what to say.

I'm really impressed. We managed to work in the three elements of all good THSCC forum threads: awning for the bus, generator for the bus, and Ryan's accident with the Bailey railroad underpass. Even though I don't have a vote, I second Roger for HOTM.

That's great Roger. I have to ask though, on really sunny hot days, wouldn't an awning on the side of the bus help reduce thermal load and help keep the bus cooler?

I'm sure the trophy girls would appreciate the shade too.

I take it we shouldn't try to run the timing equipment off the genny?

I don't see why not. It is a cheap Sam's club generator, and I don't have an o-scope, so I can't speak for the quality of the power, but it should at least be a sine wave.

Far as I could tell TSCC ran everything off of their generator. I did notice they moved it a decent ways from their trailer to keep the noise away from where radios were going to be used, so probably something to consider.

We could invest in a basic surge protector that offers some power conditioning as well. Obviously everything should be disconnected when the generator is started as well.

I'm also going to throw this out there, TSCC uses a trailer with a big window for the registration and timing/scoring and just tows it with a pickup, that looked like it worked really well. No having to crawl up into a bus, just walk up to the window and they could have more than one person doing check in. Obviously for when we replace the bus, but I think we should just run it into the ground at this point, far as I know most of the big problems are fixed as of now.

There was some discussion on this subject at the end of last year. I'll summarize it:

The current bus runs and drives fine, and if we want a significant improvement, then we'll need something newer, which would be expensive, so we'll patch this up and reevaluate our situation next year.

And this, once again, ignores the monkey wrench that is rallycross. There are many places a trailer really shouldn't be taken. The bus has good enough ground clearance and suspension to be off pavement. The trailer, not so much. Just parking it at VIR is enough of an exercise. (get it stuck in some mud, and it's going to stay there.)

Here's what Rally Cross needs:

I was finally at the office on a warm sunny day.

I put a thermal barrier over all of the non-essential windows and a heat-control film over the essential windows this morning and ran the AC. It was 71 degrees at 1500, while it was in the low 80's outside. I put a small box fan in it to circulate the air and it was very nice in there.

I turned off the AC and it quickly rose to the high 90's, so the AC was doing it's job. I guess we'll see how it does at Cary this weekend.
