I've very much been an anti-Luddite in the technology world my entire career, heck even since first starting programming in 1971 on a DEC PDP8, but the current social media bubble isn't something that's attractive to me; however, I am impressed that a company like FB can convince a billion people to turn over their most private information, pictures, etc, FOR FREE in order for FB to monetize all of that information for massive profit...that part of social media engineering is actually amazing.

Who knew I'd ever agree with Chuck? My family didn't speak to me for a year because of a post by my wife that was misinterpreted on FB. I don't see any reason to 'go there'.

Yeah, I realize a median is not a mean and so there's only SO MUCH that one bad time can hurt you. But if you put yourself in the shoes of people with a lot of anxiety (most people on this thread do not qualify, so really try to empathize with some SERIOUS social anxiety here)... well, I just don't know any reason to make this person feel like a shit.

We were planning to implement a sort of bogey time rule which would have limited the impact of such a situation.

Seems reasonable. Worth proposing for next time. I'd just give it a bit more lead time. Same with the "overflow drivers" class (needs a better name obviously). People will be chill about change if it's announced well in advance and communicated clearly. (On a web page ideally... One of the problems with fb [and there are many] is the way information is difficult to access and doesn't become obvious until 85 of your friends are shouting about it.)

I propose a SRS BSNS overflow class for folks with a sense of humor. 8)

Do I have a second?

Works for me. Definitely better than "overflow" or "extra drivers." :-D How about the "Clown Car" class??

Well, you're not a vagrant if you've been crashing with the same peeps for like four years... ;)

We had tossed around the idea of Vagrant Class in the form of a sort of post-processed season trophy for whoever manages to drive the most different cars they don't own. It has a little bit of overlap with the concepts of "Clown Car" / "SRS BSNS" / "overflow or whatever" classes.

EDIT: quotation mark in the wrong place or whatever I'm leaving it

Oh, I would call that the Dabbler Cup. :D

EDIT: Or the Free-Loader Award? So many options...!

From the club who brings you Old Farts class, I suspect we'll be looking at politically correct-ish ways to accommodate many-driver cars at our local events in the future.

Sent this originally to Chris Peterson as an apology to throwing out the term "national snob", but realized that it had some merit to post here as well:

I should clarify. People who run nationals are not by default nationals snobs. People who talk crap about local events and the people who put them on (and complain that they lack the professional feel of a national event, or don't follow some unwritten course design rules) are. My use of the term wasn't meant to offend those in our club who do run nationals. It probably did offend some, and I can certainly understand why. I shouldn't have said it, it was a bit of venting on my part that should have been more specifically directed rather than painting with a wide brush).

It's been really tough not to tell people what I really want to say on FB. Literally, I have had someone state that THSCC is the worst club ever and should have gruesome sex acts performed on, and then that SAME PERSON ask us for money to fund a party that he is throwing. I've done my absolute best to take the high road on this and I think our other officers have done a great job of that as well.

The whole "NCAC rules committee" is a joke, there was no room for discussion, Highlands wasn't even invited to the table, and I was booted out of the discussion for being "non-responsive". I failed to respond to a facebook message within 2 hours because I was on a plane, my bad. It was clear that Triad and CCR had decided how things were going to be and were running with it. As far as I'm concerned, they can have it, I want nothing to do with NCAC in the future. Zach suggested we actually hold a conference call like how adults would do things and was rebuffed for suggesting it.

One of the key takeaways to me is that we can't judge entire clubs by the behaviors of a couple of assholes. I don't hate Triad or CCR because of any of how this has transpired. I DO hate the entire concept of the NCAC at this point, and have no interest in running co-events with those clubs in the near future because of some of the specific people in power with them that I would have to collaborate with at this point, but there are a LOT of great people in all of those clubs.

Brice, thanks for sharing. and based upon your narrative... We clearly needed a documentary filmmaker team following everyone around. Or rather, just make this into some type of reality show. It sounds like there was more than enough outlandish drama with plenty of "strong characters". :(

Hey, that class was self-described and -instituted! As was ladies not that long ago, despite recent claims of misogynistic overtones.

Chris and I think we are professional course-design critics, so it's possible people have heard static from us, and if so I apologize. But lest you think we limit it to griping about locals, you should hear us at a Pro, where we really let them have it. :P At the same time, I know the people you're talking about. Some people are never gonna be happy, no matter what you do. Can't please all the people all the time.
