I would prefer it if the Swap & Sell Forum is private rather than public. I'm not sure of the historical reasons that it is public in the first place. I would guess that it is for non-members to buy and sell items, but how often does this actually happen? Are we keeping it public so individuals with expired memberships can still access this board or is it truly for the general public? When I post items for sale, the price for THSCC members is often better than for Craigslist etc. I'd prefer that a Craigslist buyers not be able find the THSCC ad.

Discuss...

Some History... At one point non members could post in the swap and sell forum. But automated spambot posts became an issue so I turned off the ability for public posts.

I would be in favor of making it private especially given most post to craigslist for public and here for private AND that I believe most assume it is already private already.

The original point was two-fold. One was to make it easy for outsiders to see what we had available, as well as allowing outsiders to post items that were a good fit for us.

With the popularity of craigslist now, maybe the public forsale forum is outdated.

Yes. Better said than what I posted above.

Yes, I agree it seems outdated to have it public now. For security reasons and otherwise it makes more sense to just have the whole forum private.

It's pretty handy if I see something a buddy that isn't a member might be interested in I can send him the link and he can see it. Not opposed to it being private either though.

Vote for private also. I've used the Lounge in the past to post for sale tires and such that I wanted to offer at a good price to deal quickly and easily with the THSCC community. There's no good reason it should be public here in 2015 but instead be a private service for members of the club.

^^Even before I knew it was public, I'd share posts with non-members by converting the page to a pdf and email it to them. I just feel if we are paying members of the forum, then private access makes sense. For buying and selling stuff this has been the best forum for me. I like the fact that you have to pay to play and you know who you are dealing with.

So who are the powers that be that can make this happen? There does not appear to be much opposition to making them private.

My suggestion would be to pass your feedback on directly to Zach and Noah. Either by email (can be found in the contact section of the main THSCC site) or PM here.
