Robert is a professional at Adobe who does this stuff for a living. If you can get your video and pictures together, then Robert can make something really nice for you. I'll talk to him this weekend about it; we'll both be driving the Duff car at the LeMons race at CMP. I can give you an FTP account on a server that you can upload the pictures and video to.

Can you ask how much he would charge to do this please?

He's my little brother; he'll do it for free or I'll beat him up.

Robert and I attended our first HPDE with THSCC on VIR-S back in 2005. He's in Atlanta, so he only makes it out this way 1-2 times/year (He was at the June CMP HPDE), but I'm sure that he would be happy to put something together for the club.

I'm probably going to pick up a quadrotor over Christmas with a new GoPro and a laptop.

Videos are neat, but we need to assign priority to getting the new website up. (2 cents)

Can someone in the know start a thread and give details on the new website? I heard mention here that something was discussed at the recent meeting. I know nothing and am very curious.

The short of it is that Zach has a "new" webpage template loaded and Noah is taking the lead. The VP's are providing input. Trying to get this wraped up by year end.

Saw this recently from VIR about drones. Take special note of #4 and the $5 million liability policy needed to get a permit to fly one at VIR.

VIR isn't exactly known for being a leader in anything, so my guess is that this policy is ripped off from somewhere else. So expect this kind of document to be what you see at a lot of places going forward.

Some of the wording is pretty non-legal or just dumb, particularly the use of alcohol and controlled substances line. You can't have that stuff 8 hours prior, but it looks like consumption of such things DURING is perfectly okay. Duh.

And it finishes with a blanket no for SCCA and IMSA events. Not surprising.

There was one at the corkscrew at the Monterey Historics this year. Pretty sure it was a professionally run outfit. It was pretty gusty and that thing was holding position MUCH better than I thought one could in that kind of wind.

Good thing we'll be using an R/C n-rotor, not a drone.

While we're on the whole camera drone topic, and following up on Donnie's comment... Do we have anyone in the club who owns one and has the piloting ability to get usable video from it?

No emoticon, but I assume you are joking in that you think there is a difference?

Nice find. I am not surprised they have a published policy.

THSCC specifically, I don't think so -- how many decades ago were the policies "adapted" from NASA/SCCA???

In the case of track events, it's not THSCC that's the issue. CMP and VIR both have policies disallowing drones over an active track. If you wanted to use the lunch time "parade lap" time to send out a single car, at low speed, with a chase car piloting the drone, maybe CMP would allow it. VIR, not a chance in ****. Of course, most of the quads I'm aware of wouldn't fly long enough to go around CMP or VIR.

At an autox/rallyx, if it's tethered such that it cannot crash onto the course, I'd be ok with it. (do you have a copter that can fly with ~200ft of dental floss trailing from it?)
