I can appreciate the task the AX VPs have with sites these days. Only in comparison to the relatively easy job I had during my VP stint, with a fairly reliable set of sites... until the fall of my second year when two sites cancelled on us with less than a week's notice. :(

In order to get really big turnouts, I think we need a site local to the RTP area, or at least in range of multiple clubs. NCCAR is a great place, but it's a haul for anybody from Triad and westward. Have we had much participation from the NCR folks in Wilmington? It's a lot closer to the folks in Richmond or Tidewater Va. Does anyone go to their events anymore?

Anyway, about the May 10 autocross. Thank you for not booking it on Sunday May 4, since I plan to go to the Pinehurst Concours again. http://pinehurstconcours.com/ This year they have a "Ford Mustang 50th Anniversary" class, so Rodney and I have to be there. But Saturday May 10 is the annual Heart of Carolina Mustang Club Charity Car Show, so I'm begging the VPs to consider moving the NCCAR autocross to a May 3 or May 17.

NCCAR is booked solid. We were lucky to get the two dates there that we did at the price we are paying.

I wonder if they're booked up with race firms wanting to do testing? For HPDEs, I'm not the only one that thinks that track is horrid. I've done a private rental there twice, done many laps, both directions, etc, and I just can't enjoy the place other than it was cheap (at the time, very cheap) and a place to go wring out some cars. All the constant radius, tire-eating corners are very boring for a track. You can do some good novice instruction there I guess, but as a fun place to drive, it ranks the lowest of any track I've ever been on (which is only a few: Road Atlanta, VIR all configs, Lime Rock, Mid-Ohio, Summit Point). :(

Now for an autox on course, it's a wonderful venue! I should make it on the 10th (if it was the 17th I'd be out).

I will echo Chucks comments, but to be fair, it was never designed to be a race track. The long constant radius turns suck the big one no doubt. Kind of like driving up and on-ramp, back down the same ramp, rinse and repeat. It's a shame too since it's on 45 mins from my house. :(

Sport Bikes, drifting, WKA, member track days fill their schedule. Good to see them fill the venue, as that helps meet their bottom line and preserves a location for us.

We really need Danville. Like, badly.

The good part about them filling their schedule is the potential for expansion in the future. From talking to Sam, the most likely next step is to pave the pit/paddock area, which could potentially contain a more conventional autocross for future events.

I would adjust the new track layout so that the whole loop would be avoided so you would come up the hill (clockwise) and instead of hairpinning go right into that new proposed section. I like the expanded VDA. I'd do that before paving the parking lot :-)
