So the news at last nights meeting was we have a potential new location for autox'g. The short story is a member of the Buick club in Burlington called me about having us host an autox for them. They told me they had a site to run on. As it turns out, this was part of a parking/transfer lot for an old government missile factory in Burlington, go figure. It's a 10 acre site, but is split diagonally by a train track. We can use 1 side for the event and 1 side for paddock and grid. Les and I looked at the site and it has ton's of potential.

This is just in the early stages of setting this up and we hope to run there twice next year, first in March and then in May to support the Buick clubs autox.

Location of the site is 204 Graham-Hopedale Rd in Burlington. You can see on google earth or maps. The owner of the site, Richard Clark, is VERY nice to deal with and wants us to come up and run on the site. (see Ryan's post here... viewtopic.php?f=22&t=12149 ) There are interesting logistics we'll need to deal w/ since this site is literally in town, but these are to be addressed as we head forward.

Since this is a new site, we'll need to be on our best behavior while we're up there, but high hopes for this new site. The site owner is a car nut and loves the 87-88 buick grand nationals. This should be fun to see these run.

So that's the big news for now. Stay tuned as we'll be asking for help to clean off the site over the winter to get it prepped.

If this works out as planned, we'll have Sanford, Danville, NCCAR and now Burlington to run on. Burlington is only an hour from Raleigh as opposed to 1:45 from Raleigh to L'burg. If you want to run at L'burg next year, let us know, but I'm assuming we're close to loosing that site to Gryphon. Stay tuned for that news as well.

Ditto! Seriously though, I'd be happy to help get this place cleaned up. Looks like it could be a great site, and Burlington is even closer to Durham than it is to Raleigh :D

Nice. What kind of cleaning does it need?

Cool site. Unsolicited advice: That is a very "visible" location -- community management and crowd control should be a top priority. I think you'd want to consider things like having a meeting with town police prior to the event (invite them to come out and run!), maybe hand out flyers to surrounding local businesses (within sight or earshot) introducing the club, and maybe even do some kind of fundraiser at any events held here for a local non-profit (shelter or community development organization) to help keep the location viable. I would think that donating $2-5 per entrant to some feel-good organization might help.

Rodney didn't mention the site rental fee: $0.00 :). We will probably let the Buick club folks in at no cost and we'd probably still have $$ leftover to get a security person to remain on site during the day. Talking with the 5.0 would be a good call too from a noise standpoint.

This was first on my list of concerns and I asked Richard this very question. He's reply was, "...I have the chief of police personal cell phone, shouldn't be an issue"

Trust me, this will taken very seriously before we press forward.

I'm pretty sure Rodney mentioned that Richard is "good friends" with the local police chief and that Richard said "The Police will not be a problem".

As far as crowd control, looking at the Google earth pics at street view, it appears there is some 4' fencing around at least SOME of the perimeter.

Still need to be good stewards and promote a positive image.
