Feedback for Tylers in Apex

OK, here we go. Let's hear the feedback on Tyler's last night. I'll start w/ some of the obvious issues.

1, Noise. plain and simple, this room was not conducive to holding a meeting. Every surface was hard and reflective and made it difficult to talk or hold a side conversation. Mary Johnson did talk to the owner and they do have a "curtain" they can hang on the wall to soften the noise. Didn't know we had that option, so we do have "some" noise abatement available should we choose to return.

2, Ordering food. Seems this didn't go as smoothly as it could, but I take the blame for that. Folks should have ordered food and drink as they came in so it eliminated ordering everything at the same time as it happened last night. I think this hit the kitchen rather hard and we were eating during the meeting. I don't see this one as a big negative, just a learning curve and setting expectations for our meeting.

3, paying. Now, this one seemed a little disjointed as well. Servers were very slow to bring the bills and kept us there late. Again, not a show stopper, just need to set expectations w/ Tyler's.

4, Seating. I'd say this was ok and there are many options regard to seating. Don't see any issues here.

That's the big stuff I see right now. Please let me know what you thought of Tyler's. As far as location goes, we'll NEVER satisfy everyone in the club. For any given location we're going to pick up as well as loose members. This is just a given.

I'll post as soon as I can the next location for the meeting....

I'm torn. Having to wait 45 minutes to get our checks only for them to be wrong (well mine was) coupled with the super slow service sort of canceled out the nicety of good food/beer. I didn't mind the loudness honestly.

I'd go back to Randy's in a heartbeat though even if they don't have a private room.

One thing that is nice about Randy's (or *was* nice about Rudinos) is that you get to order, pay, sit down. So if you want to get only a beer and you have leave half way through the meeting, no big deal. Or if you are late, you can order, get your slices and not screw up the kitchen for ordering mid cycle.

Not sure if any of the other options we are looking for are like that.

The loudness was a big problem for me. I couldn't hear people sitting directly across from me. Chatter around the room was really bad.

The loudness was the biggest problem for me. Followed closely by the delay in ordering & paying.

Didn't go, so no opinion on Tyler's. However, I did remember yesterday that McCall's Barbecue and Seafood in Clayton has large side areas that can be closed off for meetings. My group went there a lot when I worked in Clayton. Great food on the buffet, and you can order from a menu if you prefer. And less than 30 min from my house.

Should be nice and quiet with it walled off, too.

It's only a few miles from Rush Hour, in case people want to go there before or after the meeting.

And yes, this is the place that the plane crashed into a few years ago.

Well, I must admit that driving an hour and 15 minutes in rush hour traffic to get there wasn't great. But then, Bowie comes from Wilson, so once a month won't kill me. (I can't speak for Bernie :wink:

) We choose to live in the country, so we understand that where ever the meeting is held will probably be a drive for us.

The noise level in the room was probably my biggest complaint. I couldn't even talk to people across the table, much less at the other table. The service was slow and I actually would have preferred to enjoy my meal while having conversation with others rather than take some minutes, them take a bite, but that's just me. In other words, eat, then have the meeting. I also wasn't too happy at being held up after the meeting waiting for our check.

I agree with what James said about Randy's. They were happy to have us, made accommodations on the fly, and you ordered and paid when you arrived, so you could leave when you needed to. (The food however was only average, and though we don't "need" privacy, having a meeting room is a plus.)

All in all, I'm anxious to try some other places before we make a decision.
Hope that comes to pass. The Mexican place that SCCA uses sounds interesting. Hope we'll give it a try.

I think the experience was hurt by the service (understaffed) and they just didn't have a good 'system' in place of who got what and who's check was who's. The food was good and the space seemed adequate unless we have a meeting where another half dozen or more attend.

I did have a little bit of a tough time hearing Les at times when he was speaking up at the other end of the table. I'd go back and I think if we made this place the spot, we'd have to just tell them to have a third server to keep things rolling and ordering early is the best way to do it.

Just curious, is the mexican place El Rodeo in Pleasant Valley? If so, there're quick, have pitchers and know how to split tickets, but as someone mentioned, you can have mexican food or mexican food which never bothers me. That's interesting news about Natty's too. I was wondering what restaurant in a recession would have turned down revenue on 30+ thristy & hungry patrons?

Do they have beer? And isn't that location used for an airplane landing strip occasionally.

I've never been to Tyler's so I can't comment.

I have been to a couple of SCCA meetings at El Rodeo at Pleasant Valley, but it's been at least 10 years ago. IIRC, they meet upstairs in a separate room, I don't think it was very large, but I don't have a good idea of how many people show up for THSCC meetings to know if it's large enough for a "regular" crowd.

McCall's is a good idea too- the buffet thing should make food delivery go pretty quick (ala Golden Corral).

Tylers just doesn't make it for me....The noise was deafening, I don't think one curtain is going to make much difference!!!! The service sucked, pure and simple, we waited over 30 min for a drink, then another 30 min to order. And God only knows how long it took to get the food, then wait thirty min for the check.....and get tagged for a 20% TIP----TIP MEANS TO INSURE PROMPTNESS!!!! WTF????
If you have a table of fifteen patrons you better have two waiters per table not two waiters for 33 people.
Who ever heard of a restaurant that collects your credit card before you order your food?????
I rate Tylers as a fiasco!!! I don't believe I'll be back there.

i was not wild about it, the service was rather glacial and not prepared for us well.
of course the noise, the food was good. very good, but it was slow and not ready for a big crowd. it also took me an hour to get my check afterwards.. not ideal.
that is my 2 cents. i would not probably come back

I would say that the Tyler's in Durham would have been able to knock out a party of 33 with the greatest of ease. They do so 100+ times a year before every Durham Bulls game.....however, like was mentioned that is the main issue with us having our meeting there given parking is a PITA on game days.

I enjoyed Tylers. Loud? Yes. Service a bit under-prepared? Yes. Beer and food? Worth some slack on the other issues if they are willing to clean a few things up. Noise was only an issue when 10-15 people were talking, assuming that 15-20 were trying to listen. It was actually fine when Rodney was talking. I usually zone out when Les is talking, so I didn't notice a problem there
