Well let's see this guy brought up some ideas to help improve membership. But that got shot down quick.
Playing with $5 discounts isn't going to solve your lack of entries.

Ram I'm giving you first dibs on your offer to trade entry fees to work my shift :-) (i'm not joking either, you've got a PM coming).

kind of ironic that a club considered by many to be "Elitist" would reject a worker substitution idea for potentially being viewed as elitist.

Actually I'm more interested in the 1/2 day events. The worker thing would be a nice perk. Might be a surprise to you but there are clubs that hire course workers. There is nothing novel about either idea. They just don't happen to be done right now with THSCC.

How do you know that it isn't under consideration?

If this is actively being worked on, please include me on this. DB design has been my day job for over a decade now. I know what I am doing. I also have also put some thought and work into this the last time we attempted this. I understand many of the issues.

Ok, did anybody mention how to see if one has paid their renewal dues? I am also an advertiser and I need to see if I paid that for 2011 as well

So as usual, the online membership renewal and true member database effort fell flat on it's face. I started my new job and my cohorts didn't do anything. I guess a year long autox pass wasn't incentive enough.

Get your check books out :(.......

Check is already in the mail...

One of the likely factors in car club participation is the continuing decline in vehicle miles driven especially if you adjust that data for the population aged 16 and over. It's back to levels of 15 years ago right now:

That's really interesting Chuck and I've wondered how that affects the turnout at our events. If we took a poll on all Tarheeler's favorite site, I'd bet it would be Sanford just because of proximity to Raleigh. I have a feeling that if Lauringburg was only an hour away, we'd probably feel more favorably about it, despite the deteriorating and cracking concrete.

I've noticed my customer base has become more centralized in the last 5-6 years because families don't drive as far to purchase or visit. We used to have a big presence in Cary and Chapel Hill but now our most popular zone is Wake Forest, only five miles up US1 from the store.

Part of the issue is that many Tarheelers are having kids and kids nowadays take a lot more care and feeding and taking to soccer/t-ball/b-ball/dance etc and don't have the time to spend picking up cones and working on cars.

These people are not being replaced potentially because of some of the issues Chuck mentioned I'm sure. Think of how many people you know male and female) who can't drive a manual trans and how many kids can't. Also, how many 16 yo's now drive the same beaters we did. Now they all drive BMWs, new Honda's, Lexi, etc. So they don't get the hand's on feeling.

Finally, it may be that we don't have a site like the RBC (or whatever its called now) that is public and allows us to market the club to a larger audience. It is too bad that we can't find another site like that where we could market the club to people who may not know it exists.

JMHO - I'm practicing for becoming an Old Fart.

Great point Rob. I had to stop for about 5 years till both my boys got old enough to either attend or be independent enough that they can stay with my mom and not be a huge undertaking for her. It's a very valid reason.

Autotragics,

As I walk thru the student parking lot at North Brunswick HS out of approx 200 cars There are less than ten that are manuals. YMMV :(
