Hi everyone,

Once again Tarheel is is going to put on an autocross for the EV challenge cars. This year it will be at the McKinnon(sp?) center near the crossroads of Western Blvd and Gorman St.

I think they would like to start running cars at around 10:00 am and they will probably be done around 1:00 or 2:00 pm.

I need a few volunteers who can show up early (6:30 to 7:00am) and help setup the course etc. Then I'll need a few more folks to help work the event.

For those of you unfamiliar with the EV Challenge, it is a program that challenges High schools and Tech colleges to convert cars to electric power. This autocross event is part of a 2 day event in which the schools programs are judged on various aspects of the conversion process. They have a range event, they look at the engineering on the cars, they have a troubleshooting event, of course, they have the autocross, and I think they even have an award for the best website describing the schools program.

If you've never been to one it can be great fun to work since most of the participants are high school kids and they are very enthusiastic. It's great to see them all having a good time and cheering for their schools car.

Of course, doing this event also helps the club out since they make a donation to our us in return for our help. We usually try and buy something to make our events better with the money we receive from them. In the past we have bought things like the timer box we currently use and also the fancy timer display.

If you would like to help out please Email me at Snapspinnr@aol.com If you signed up at the last club meeting and are still planning on helping out, you don't have to send me another Email I still have your names. I'm planning on sending out an Email on Monday or Tuesday with some more specifics on the events.

If you are asking what's in it for me? The club usually picks up lunch for everybody as well as giving helpers a gift certificate for a free entry to an autocross. Of course, you will also have the undying gratitude of all the club members who will benefit from your labor.

Thank you.

Shawn
