Look here. This would give us lights, sirens, built-in cabinets, and some come with a cot so whoever drives it doesn't have to get a hotel room. :D Plenty of colors to choose from and many are the preferred 7.3L diesel. Most have been used for short trips only and they have experience with drivers who speed.

I was an EMT for a few years. You're going to have to be careful with ambulances. They take an absolute beating. Either they are a corporate rig and have a ton of idle hours and/or an absolute ton of start/stops on them or they are an EMS rig and go from cold start to WOT in 20 seconds all through the winter.

Ambulances at the company I worked for would go out 6 days a week all year, 10 runs a day = 20 starts. The volunteer company I worked for was about 2 square miles, I'm not sure if the engine on those trucks ever fully warmed up in the winter.

I like it. We could also enter it in long-distance rallies. Is the club doctor office still open? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=85PcMJ9D8X0

So here's a question for the membership --

Does anyone out there have a contact in any Bus, RV, or Ambulance manufacturing companies? I'd like to have a conversation with one of the people that put these things together to give me a decent idea of how hard it is going to be to modify a bus. Some of the questions I have -- Are the rear frame rails extended? Can the extensions be removed? What's the stock overhang? How is the fiberglass shell attached to the passenger shell skeleton? Is the passenger shell skeleton welded to the frame directly? Etc, etc, etc
